Fall 2018 General Conference Thread

Thing is I actually do support the church for the most part. Its still a big part of my life in a mostly positive way despite the fact that i dont attend or believe the teachings. Just wish that they would leave the pot alone.... for my own selfish reasons lol.
I guess you have to either support everything about something or nothing at all or there is something wrong with that to certain sad people who seem to have a problem with everything.

I think you likely support more unsavory institutions than you realize. I think we all do. You name it. Certain tv stations we watch. Certain food products we buy. Particular medications we take. Our “support” for entities is seemingly endless. And I’m sure you’re as “guilty” of this as fish or anybody else.

Im a huge jazz fan but didn't always like the politics of larry h miller tbh. Now mock, insult, and laugh at me damn it!

(really doe you should laugh at and mock me because i apparently hit a button on my keyboard that makes everything i type come out in this slanted font style and I dont know how to undo it. Old/computer illiterate people problems lol)

I don't think that most Christians are going to consider Mormons as Christian regardless of their name. The LDS Church has doctrine that is different than the accepted Christian tenets. To Mormons, just the fact that they believe in Christ makes them Christian (and they aren't wrong, in my opinion). But this move will not likely mean that the LDS Church is going to be accepted into mainstream Christian circles.

I am really bothered by Nelson's claims: "To remove the Lord's name from the Lord's Church is a major victory for Satan. When we discard the Savior's name, we are subtly disregarding all that Jesus Christ did for us — even His Atonement." “Thus, the name of the Church is not negotiable. When the Savior clearly states what the name of His Church should be, and even precedes His declaration with, 'Thus shall my church be called,’ He is serious. And if we allow nicknames to be used and adopt or even sponsor those nicknames ourselves, He is offended.”

This is why I dislike religion. While this stuff no longer applies to me, it does affect me as it is all around me and I am now judged by my family and friends by these rules.

Hey fish, that reminds me. I don't think you ever responded to my question for you on Saturday about your opinion on the new medical marijuana bill--

Maybe this isn't the right thread, but what's your opinion on this bill? https://www.deseretnews.com/article...mpromise-bill-differs-from-proposition-2.html

This. He never tries to actual have a conversation with me about anything. Just tries to demean, insult, be-little, bully, etc.

This was him to a T before his last ban. Hasn't done it to me since he's been back.

Btw, I still wear my blue Hurley tshirt I bought in like 2011.

Lmfao.

So much talking past each other. And none of it really even touches on the point of the other.

So this compromise bill seems like it simply makes less people qualify to get medical marijuana (this is a negative for me), makes it harder for a distributor to distribute it, limits the number of dispensaries/pharmacies (the compromise bill marijuana actually has to be distributed by a pharmacy), Doesn't allow people to grow their own (this is allowed under prop 2 and is a huge sticking point for me), allows you to possess less (i think, im a little foggy on that), and does not allow you to use edibles or vape/smoke it as buds (this is a huge sticking point for me as well).

So i mean im sure this will be pretty predictable answer from me but it seems like the compromise bill is simply put, more restrictive (no surprise there, i figured it would be before i even read about it). I think that marijuana should be legal to anyone for any reason and already thought prop 2 was too restrictive and regulated but its a start so i will vote for it. If prop 2 didn't exist and only this compromise bill was all we got i would vote for it too cause both are better than nothing.

I think i should be able to grow my own or buy it from wherever (walmart, 7-11 or whatever) with age restrictions and I should be able to use it where and how i want as long as im not driving.

Btw, and this has nothing to do with the topic at hand, I read a bunch of articles in time magazine about medical MJ and found that the things it works best for are rhuematoid (?) arthritis, migraines (very effective), dementia (very effective), insomnia, nasuea, loss of appetite, and there were a few others that im forgetting. Things that its not so great for: Sharp intense pain (not terribly great for any form of pain but is somewhat effective for more minor pains), anxiety (i know for a fact it works for some people but studies show that it isnt very effective for anxiety overall), glaucoma (this one was suprising to me. Basically if you have glaucoma it said that you are much better off going to a doctor and getting a different type medicine than using MJ cause it doesn't last long enough) and a few others im forgetting as well.

All of that is beside the point imo though. I want to use it cause i like to, not cause i need to, and it doesn't hurt anyone. I should be able to grow it myself (what i would prefer to do) or buy it from a business and use it how I want when I want as long as im not driving under the influence or using it at or right before work.

If someone would like to disagree with this -- substantively -- then I'm all ears. Y'all probably gonna keep making it about something else, though. That's the "classic" JFC to me.
People, family, friends, businesses, institutions, etc will all make decisions that people will find offensive to someone. Some people will choose to hold it against them. Some will overlook it and remind themselves on the things they like about them.

While being a fan and watching games may actually, in a literal sense, help BYU financially and that may end up supporting things they're against. It doesn't mean though that they should be written off. If you know fandom, you know it's like love in the sense that you can't choose to turn a switch to shut it off or turn it on. Fish's fandom with BYU is sacred, to a sense, and the positives from it, outweighs the things he doesn't support from the church.

I feel like society has developed this you're with me or against me mentality. It's left or it's right. It's offensive or get over it. Life is much more fun, in my opinion, living in the gray/middle.

Ya he left me alone for a while (until he didn't) since he came back and we had no problems. I generally wont quote him or respond to him or @ him if doesn't interact with me or my posts first.
Im trying to just not interact with him even when he does quote me or talk about me or @ me now. We will see if im able to resist. Wish me luck ;)

Lol. If you know you’re supporting an institution that’s at odds with your desired political outcomes, but then go on supporting them and complaining about the outcomes........ What would you call that, Wes?

I haven’t broken a single rule. You’re just a snowflake.

Mabe I should stop supporting my LDS friends and family because they support things I don't politically.

I wouldn't want to be a hypocrite. Yeah, **** those guys.
