What's new

Start Mitchell at the Point.

Regardless of the stats (which can be misleading especially on small sample sizes)... what I HAVE NOT missed are games where Rubio starts by dominating the ball, going 0-9, and ending the quarter with <4 assists.

I am tired of games where we start out by spotting the opponent 20 points!

I am tired of Rubio being touted as a great defender even though he can't stay in front of his man.
I see exactly the same thing you do and I'm also tired of the same thing and hopefully this ends very soon.

Rubio in December and January, 17 games:
FGM/FGA
9/13
5/10
5/13
11/23
5/13
2/5
3/14
5/10
0/8
10/15
5/11
5/11
1/10
6/17
6/13
6/13
4/5 in 5 minutes. Injured

30/33 FT% 90
88/205 FG% 43
24/65 3P% 37

Umm, not bad numbers at all. Just two of those games can really be considered garbage offensively (0/8 & 1/10).
I think it's safe to say that there's an unjustifiable anti-Rubio crowd that got stuck with the idea that Rubio needs to be shipped, and there seems to be no way of turning it around. He could have a great comeback and playoff run and the haters would still want his *** out of here. It's become rather amusing at this point tbh.

Rubio doesn't have to go, but I think most would agree that he doesn't have to start and definitely doesn't have to play 30 minutes per game.

Oh, and if he stays this summer, we shouldn't give him some Favors type overpay deal. If we do overpay, the anti- Rubio sentiment will only grow when he has his usual slow start next season.

That's pretty good.
Wish defenses would guard him

Just my 2 cents: Last year, when Rubio got injured in the playoffs, we played Mitchell a lot at point. That didn't work so well against Houston.

It hurt down the line too. We had to play more Exum/Burks for creation and Faves (who was having a good playoffs) rarely saw the floor.

No matter; the haters only see what they want to see and will do everything possible to impose their vision.

Fake news repeated to death but still fake. You say his %s are good because defenses don't guard him, so let's watch any game highlights. We should be able to watch all those made baskets wide open, left alone. For example, a game we lost against a pretty good opponent. An old foe, a team that knows us very well and therefore should know how much Rubio "sucks":

Guess what, they guard him. Tightly, too.

People really think we are a better team with no PG's?

If Mitchell shot 50% from 3 all year he'd always look like this. You all act like he gets no touches when Rubio or Exum play.
Not with no point guards. With no point guards that the defense has to guard on the perimeter.

It's the lack of shooting from the position that I don't like, not the position itself.

Trouble is the other teams don't guard him or very loosely, so those shooting stats are deceiving in comparison with Donovan who is guarded aggressively and often double and triple-teamed.

Well, if you watch all the games, you will see teams let Ricky shoot many wide open shots and try to entice him to shoot.

3.2 of his 4.2 3 point attempts per game are wide open. Meaning no defender is within 6 feet of him. The only person who gets more of those a game on our team is Ingles but he attempts 5.5 3s a game. So based on percentage its Rubio by a lot. He also leads our team with the most wide open 2 point shots, but that is less of a factor. He also leads our team with the most 2 point shots attempted while open (defender 4-6 feet away.)

Teams dont guard Rubio on the 3 point line very much. They dare him to shoot a lot, even when he is making them.

Our team as a whole gets a lot of open 3s. We lead the league in that as usual.

I understand that. I guess I was referring to the 6 feet thing. That's a lot of air space to get a good shot off. And over 3 times a game when he is playing 30 minutes per game? Crazy.

There is good and bad with the injuries... I think we get a decent sample of DM at pg with these guys out. We get to see more Grayson and he should play with little fear of getting benched... cuz they ain't no one else over there.

The bad is there is no doubt the team is worse without Exum/Ricky/Neto. Hopefully it doesn't cost us a game or two. Tonight is big.

As a spot up shooter I'm actually totally cool with Ricky. Off the dribble I think his percentages are better this year, but its tough to watch him use the pick two or three times and have the defender drop under... only to settle for a less than ideal shot. It doesn't get the blender started.

I've thought for a long time that either Favs or Ricky should not start because of spacing. Ricky is good from the corners... I do wonder if Favs was coming off the bench if Ricky could have more off ball value hanging in the corner (when he is running the action). Ricky is tough to figure out for me... I don't think the fit is ideal... but if its workable maybe its the best solution.
