Dunc'd On Utah offseason preview. Starts at about 53:55.

Cliffs:
  • Don't really love any of the realistic free agents for Utah since the PG FAs are meh. Collison or Beverley.
  • Seemed to think it's way more realistic bringing Rubio back than what others have said. They didn't mention anything about Rubio being done in Utah
  • Bench scorers/flamethrowers/instant offense (Utah's second biggest need) are also in short supply. Mention a need of someone that can't be left open. Terrence Ross, Bojan (said Bojan will probably get a "bad" contract that Utah typically avoids), Wayne Ellington, Gerald Green.
  • Don't see a Conley trade that can happen that makes the Jazz better, since Utah might have to lose Favors or Royce and 1st rd pick. Jazz also lack "sweeteners" to beat offers from other teams (Indiana/Detroit/probably others).
  • They think Royce's value might be a 1st rd pick
  • Said there's no rush to make a big move this year since Mitchell is gonna be 23 and Gobert 27.
  • Then backtrack and say they might have to put the chips in since the clock could be ticking on Gobert since he'll be supermax eligible.
  • They love Jrue Holiday as a long term fit. Might not be on the market this year, but if Utah doesn't put the chips in this season, he might be gettable at the trade deadline or after.
  • They would keep Neto and Niang

Sounds like we are going for round 3 this year boys. Expect Rubio has been told he is not a priority. Get your shelvin mack pgs ready for a Utah jazz signing

Doesn't sound like he put a lot of time into preparing this portion of his podcast. Something that is blindingly obvious, and has been for months, is that Rubio is not coming back. That was even before Rubio's public comments.

It was not great from them honestly. Super duper vanilla.

The only really interesting thing is that he believes that Royce is worth a first round pick. We would be idiots to trade him, however. . .

He’s one of those guys that he’s worth that because of cheap good wing production but only to the right teams. We shouldn’t move him unless it’s a home run deal and no one is offering a home run deal for him.

Like Memphis would rather have a first than Royce but Boston would likely gladly give up one of their firsts for him.

What asset is going to be a proven top notch defensive player who gets along great with our coaching staff and star Donovan while also being able to hit close to 40% from 3?

Royce is a key part to our future as either a starter or one of the first guys off the bench. There is no reason to trade him.

Locke keeps mentioning Dragic. That really doesn’t excite me at all... I wonder what they’d ask for him. He was basically hurt most of the year last year.

Anyway... he might be the more likely backup to the backup to the backup plan. Instead of Kevin Love like @infection is prophesying.

I wouldn't be too much against Dragic. If I had to guess, Miami might trade him in order to alleviate their tax bill. If everybody picks up their option, Miami has $140 million in salaries. So if they could dump Dragic ($19 million) for a retiring Korver ($3.4 million) and let's say a 2nd rounder, that saves them a ton of luxury tax money.

In this worse case scenario (worse than getting a prime free agent), we could add Dragic and keep Favors. It isn't perfect, but I think we are better with Dragic than with Rubio.
