NON-JAZZ NBA PLAYOFF thread

Watching Devin Booker get locked up by Patrick Beverley the last two games makes me even more amazed that Mitchell was able to torch him on one foot.
You are literally one of the stupidest people on Earth if you think Mitchell was playing with one foot.

I agree. Mitchell is unreal. It’s a shame he doesn’t have more help.
Its also a shame we couldn't have seen what the jazz looked like with a healthy mike conley. (other than what we saw in the regular season where if he and mitchell dont get hurt the jazz finish with the #1 seed and a pretty damn huge cushion)

Lol that you take his post literally. I dont think he really thinks that mitchell was playing with one of his feet amputated. I think he was more meaning that mitchell wasn't 100% healthy the entire series.

Not sure if it would’ve made much of a difference. Our deficits at the 3-4 positions and Q’s lack of adjustments still would’ve doomed us against the Clippers. Our inability to figure out their zone or to stop them from getting to the rim killed us. Our defense was soooooo awful those last two games. Sooooo awful. I remember the Clippers scoring 40+ in consecutive quarters in game 6, turning a 25 pt deficit into a double digit win.

Idk. Conley had a really good defensive rating this season and remember, we were up 25 in the third quarter. Even with horrible defense if we had a healthy and in rythm Conley then we would score more on offense and we win game 6.
Then we head back to Utah.
And who knows what happens in games 3, 4, and 5. I sure wish I could know.

The Clippers beat us with a high pressure defense. Conley was the best possible weapon against that defense on the Jazz roster and we never had a healthy Conley in the series and the Jazz lost.

The scheme the Clippers used was 100% a "Jazz without Conley" scheme. It doesn't work if Conley is at 100%.

Deandre Ayton was a minus 25 and Zubac was a plus 28 lol.
There was a lot of things that happened in that game that are unsustainable.

I don't think the Suns will shoot that poorly again, particularly Booker and Paul. Theres this huge media narrative this morning that Beverly owned Booker. I went back and rewatched all of Bookers shots last night, and there were maybe 3-4 of them at most were Beverly made a legit good contest. The Suns also oddly went completely away from DeAndre Ayton for stretches in that game. The Clippers have no answer for him. It was baffling - now some of that could be the Clippers on-ball pressure, but Ayton was just being ignored a lot of the time by Suns players.

Paul looked winded too, and they lost Payne with an ankle (which could be a huge factor if he can't go in Game 4).

Clippers played hard, but I mean they had to. Its win or series-over. The Suns weren't just going to sweep the rest of the playoffs.

I don't think the Suns are going to play that poorly again.

I agree that a lot of things happened that were unsustainable for the suns in a negative way, similar to a lot of things happening in game 1 that were unsustainable for the suns in a positive way. I also don't think the clippers will miss 12 threes in a row again like they did last night. Thank God for the suns pg missed 2 free throws at the end of game 2 and that goaltending is legal on an out of bounds play or they would be down 2-1. Hell, if the suns don't play so far above their averages in game 1 they could be down 3-0 right now. This has been a very close series so far.

As for going away from ayton, that's not surprising. He isn't typically featured much in their offense. In fact this season was his career low for shot attempts per game. Last night he got about the same amount of shots as he did in game 1 and 2 and more shot attempts than he averaged in the previous playoff series and more attempts than he averaged in the regular season.

They should probably change their gameplan and go to ayton more but last nights usage of ayton (or lack there of) is completely normal, likely, and sustainable. And will most likely continue

PJ Tucker guarded KD last series.
He's guarding Trae Young tonight.

So washed......

I went over this. KD had his highest scoring playoff series of his career (i believe it was his 27th playoff series)
btw, tucker made zero shots tonight. I understand thats not his strength but zero? Thats not very many shots made. There are two sides to the court.

I wish we could have as well. It's frustrating that we were relatively healthy all year until the end. Part of it is Conley is older but a lot of it is just bad luck.

Conley plays decent perimeter PG defense which helps Gobert a lot. He also gets Gobert involved on offense more than anyone else on the team and that keeps him more engaged on both ends. I think we win that series with him, but who knows.

It was such a frustrating way to go out as well. There's no excuse for a collapse like that. Clippers caught fire like crazy. The Jazz should have had enough to win that game still though.

I agree. You make valid points. Didn't realize KD was that successful.

I would like to have him as another option to pester opponents. We need a guy like him although I realize he isn't perfect.

Physically Brantley could do this. I wonder what is holding him back.

Definitely could have used a guy like him more than a guy like niang in round 2.

I really really take like that Terrance Mann though. I could see him becoming an all star type player. Seems smart, looks to be able to handle the ball a bit, really good shooter, really good defender. Please don't tell me we had a chance to draft him. (I have no idea where he went in the draft)

The job Beverly is doing on booker and Paul is pretty special. And he is a bit of a threat on the offensive end too. He is way more valuable than I thought he would be.

I’ve always imagined Beverley to be a jazz guy too. Have we ever made a run at either he or Gallinari?

To me, talent wise, the Clippers have more basketball talent than the Suns. But the Suns play a more team oriented style, similar to the Spurs in 13/14 and Warriors (although this Suns team is nowhere near as talented, and experienced as those teams).

I'm interested to see what Monty does with Ayton tonight, because unlike Gobert, Porzingis, and Boban, the Clippers literally have no answer for Ayton offensively. They haven't been able to stop him at all in these first 3 games, save for the 2nd half of Game 3, and like I said, that wasn't even a lot to do with Ayton IMO.

They should run a lot of fist and Spain PnR that they perfected against Denver to drag Zubac out of the paint enough, like how they treated Jokic in the 2nd round. Post-up Booker on the block on Beverley, rather than trying to run him around screens.

The Suns never adjusted in Game 3 to how the refs were calling the game, and that is a HUGE typical issue with relatively young teams in the playoffs, and why young teams never experience success (rarely anyway).

One big thing to note is FT attempts. The Suns have 25 less FT attempts than the Clippers through 3 games, despite shooting nearly 30 fewer 3 point attempts, and dominating the paint.

If the Clippers get a similar whistle tonight, and the Suns don't adjust, this could be an ugly 20-30 point blowout for the Clippers IMO.
