Jazz Preparing Conley Offer in Range of 75/3

The only timeline for Donovan with the Jazz is the next 2 seasons. After that he's probably demanding out anyways.
Judging by what the Jazz are doing, I feel like they’re going to try and make a major turn next offseason…….that player option they gave Donovan is just another exceedingly stupid thing to shorten any turn around timeline. That player option is one of the biggest mistakes in the history of the franchise. Trading that 2024 is even risky and tells me they aren’t giving up on the notion of keeping him but it’s going to be almost impossible. If Conleys contract is 2 years, that’ll indicate a turn next summer as well IMO. They’ll trade anyone left on the roster, maybe even Rudy if they are able.

Donovan isn’t signing without it just like Tatum didn’t sign without it. Nothing we can do about it. Cost of business.

Lol. If we are making a "major turn next offseason" then the biggest mistake in the history of the franchise is Mike Conley. We can end that discussion at that time.

Giving a player a 5th year player option isn't a mistake. Not keeping him at least 4 years would have been a mistake. It's a player's world and we live in it. We did a great job keeping him for 4+ years.

If it is a two year deal for Conley it looks like their lining up their contracts to expire before repeater. After that, Donovan probably demands out and we burn it all down. They might move around Bogey or Clarkson, but not seeing a huge shakeup.

Donovan was not signing without the PO. It is what it is.

Donovan was 100% going to give in and sign it. Lindsey was just an idiot and gave in on something he absolutely DID NOT have to give in on. You are INSANE to think otherwise. He would have had to take a qualifying offer of $12 million and play TWO more seasons to create any real threat lol. It was nothing but a stupid over-correction because Lindsey pissed off Hayward during those negotiations. He over-corrected and gave Donovan literally everything he wanted. Yes, he 100% would have signed, but yes, you would have had to play a little hard ball. And by the way, Ryan Smith was the one who DID NOT want to give in on that player option and that’s why it took a couple weeks to get the deal signed. Wonder why Dennis is gone? Because Ryan hated everything he did.

Hasn't happened yet in his career. But you know, aging vets with known chronic injury issues always have a health resurgence as they get older, right? Right?

Sure, it's unlikely, but there's not much else to do at this point unfortunately.

Yes he would have, and you gained literally NOTHING by not playing a little hard ball and not giving in on it. It is total and absolute nonsense to think he wasn’t going to sign the deal over a player option in his circumstance as a RESTRICTED free agent. It’s literally the ONLY time you as a team have leverage and the Jazz pissed it away.

You are all delusional if you think the Jazz couldn’t have held out for it.

Dude let it go. You don't "know" anything. You don't "know" that Don is going to demand out. You don't "know" that we could have convinced him to scrap the player option.

You don't "know".

First of all, don't play hard ball with a franchise player. If he didn't sign the extension, he's signing a 2+1 in the summer.

If you fight your own player and let him hit restricted FA, that deal is not going to be favorable. Hayward is not a Jazz player because the Jazz blundered a similar situation.

Seems like it was DL's calling card to give players whatever the hell they wanted. He literally overpaid in just about every deal he ever made. I don't think he needs to be a hard *** stingy prick like Ainge, but my goodness he should at least negotiate on some things.

That player option is one of the worst mistakes in franchise history and will yield no benefit other than losing your star player sooner than you needed to. It was beyond stupid.

The other part to this is we will have an opportunity to negotiate another deal with him. Even if he wants out in a couple years it may be beneficial for him to sign that extension... having a good relationship maybe buys you another year before he asks out and nets you a longer contract when you trade him. Digging in for an extra year would not be smart.

There is literally a reason no player until Donovan had got a PO. The teams are meant to be given the leverage. He would have signed the full max with all the other bells and whistles, it may have taken another week or two. Big deal. The Jazz blundered Mitchell’s contract by giving him the PO. In the end, it’ll end the same way. Stop pretending being nice is somehow a benefit. Lindsey did absolutely NOTHING right his last year here. NOTHING.

Ummm this was always going to be the case, only instead of 3 years left on the contract when you can offer the extension, there’s only 2 now.

Tony Jones said on the radio that he's hearing it will likely be a 2 year deal instead of 3. Hopefully he's right.

If you don't acknowledge the possibility of Mitchell signing a 2+1 offer sheet, your mind cannot be changed. In general, if you completely disregard the other side's leverage in a negotiation you may come away with the impression that you will receive everything you want.

Thank god someone maybe has come sense in the FO... This gives you a chance to pivot and get some value on an expiring in two years if the team fails again next year.
