Is Niang S&T for Paschall possible and feasible?

I’m starting to get cold feet letting Niang walk, but I’m also concerned he gets an offer that will not be worth matching. I’d also like to avoid sending other assets and I can see Niang being a boon for them.

No, GS is WAY over the apron. They can’t take anyone in a sign-and-trade.

I could see Niang getting a MLE offer from some team like the Timberwolves.

I mean, I wanted the interest because it would be the only way to improve the team significantly without giving something up.

as it stands right now, the team is objectively worse than last year, since Favors and likely Niang are gone and haven’t been replaced.
If we’re truly being objective, anyone we could have added with the TPMLE or can add with minimums was/is unlikely to make a material difference.

Getting better was always going to require a trade. Can we find one that makes sense, or not? That’s the only question.

Teams not in large market coastal cities don’t get better with TPMLE signings and vet minimum deals.

I can say nothing else except that that’s ridiculous and there’s no point in arguing otherwise. Sure, we would be the one team that couldn’t improve with a free agent signing. Unreal.

I would look at the trade market for Lauri Markkanen or Larry Nancy Jr. I might also take a flier on Cam Reddish if he's attainable.

I understand going after Gay defensively. He's not a reliable shooter though.

TPMLE for Niang. Sign Tyler Bey. Sign Jock Landale. Trade for Eric Paschal for one of our scrubs. And hold onto the Favors TPE until trade deadline to pickup a player to address our holes/flaws.

Not sure how Markkanen would help us. We already have plenty of offense and shooting and he's not going to help our defense.

Markkanen is actually not bad at guarding out on the floor. He just struggles in the post. In the playoffs, the Mavericks showed that just having size on the floor is a deterrent in the half court.

We’ve convinced Don, Rudy, and Mike to play for us. Do they not count because they were already here?
Retaining or trading for all stars wasn't the point. The point was which free agents that have been all star have we convinced to come play for us. Objectively, none in their prime. Drawing players with options has always been an issue and will always be an issue.

Yep. You can’t teach size. Keep in mind, the guy has played for 3 coaches in 4 years, including Jim Boylen (eww.) The hope would be playing for a competent coach would help him unlock his potential. Likely? No idea. Doable? Yes.

Yeah, for sure. But who gives a ****. That’s a problem for every other team not in a large market coastal city.

It’s a really a vanity thing more than an actual problem. It’s not holding onto the ones that you do get via draft and trade that becomes a problem.

Lauri has a 40" vertical, size and a shot. Quin improved Niang maybe he can do the same for Lauri

Not before they arrived.
Drummond is an all-star. Cousins is an all-star. Teague is an all-star. Why not bring them in? These guy would be happy to take anything at this point.

Look, all-star pedigree means nothing unless they could actually play like one for us here in Utah. Cousins isn't any better than Kelley Olynyk at this point of his career. Neither is Teague a better option than TJ McConnell.

We should focus on getting the players with the right fit and potential to succeed on this team. Not the so-called "big-names". Only few teams end up with the real deals anyways. Like how much Boston paid OKC just to take Kemba Walker off of their hand.

I think we need to retain Niang if its a reasonable price. He played very well for his role in the regular season. Even in the first round he was okay. He had a really bad series against the Clippers though. I think he has some value to us still and is still improving. But good be a good trade value if he plays well again.

Well, that was kind of my point. I don't want any of those three on the Jazz. Just saying we have always had a difficult time drawing good/great free agents to the Jazz with all things being equal. I ****ing hate it. But its a fact. Makes the GM's job much more difficult.

You could definitely make a case for him being better than Paschall. If they could be had for similar prices, I’d probably take Niang.
