What's new

Donovan averages 2 PASSES to Rudy a game (NOT ASSISTS).

Or, to look at it another way, Rudy gets the ball from Donovan more than he gets it from anyone else on the team except Mike, the PG. (And Joe, but Joe's not here right now, man.)

Here's one: Trae Young has more assists (not passes, assists) to Clint Capella than Don has passes to Rudy.

I knew it was bad, I didn't realize it was *this* bad.

Hell, Rudy gets 2+ blocks a game, so he gets more passes from the other team than he does from Donovan.

The non-pass last night was really the big eye-opener for me. It was so egregious and the ultimate result was so pathetic. The frustration expressed by Rudy in the moment was telling and very understandable. Why do that work at all if DM is just going to ignore you?

I wanted to believe their relationship wasn't broken but it obviously is.

Sucks for the Jazz. Those two with good chemistry is a legit core to build around, which we have.

I don't want to be one of those posters who does the "I said this way back when" but when Ingles went down and there was talk of trading him I expressed my concern that he was the guy holding the locker room together with his sense of humor and good nature.

Or look at it like this, Mitchell gets into the paint at will and probably has way more opportunities to get Gobert easy looks. IMO those numbers are skewed because of that fact.

His career high in assist is 11 so it's not like Donovan has ever passed to anybody really. He's gotten better but he's only been in double digits assist 3 or 4 times all season. To me it's what sets him apart from the very best in the league. He could be truly great if he could get others the ball and open up the offense. Thing is, he's a good passer he just doesn't want to.

Just looking at the numbers for the whole team not passing to the big men, it's almost like that's the system - don't give it to the man inside, kick it back out for a 3. Which kind of makes sense, in that a 3 pt shot by a good shooter is the 2nd most efficient type of shot, earning almost the most points per attempt. You know what is the most efficient? A dunk.

I posted this in another thread but it feels like it belongs in this one. He's passing to Rudy less than ever this season.

Some of this is scheming by the other teams. After Rudy lead the league in dunks teams started taking that away from him. Also last year is when Rudy started to stagger his minutes with Mitchell more. It doesn't explain all of it though, and definitely there are way more opportunities that get ignored.

But think about the fact that Mitchell usually has 3-5 plays where he recklessly drives in and throws up a shot that has no shot of going in, usually because there’s 2-3 guys that close out on him

part of this is that trae is simply a better passer, scorer and decision maker than mitchell in the pnr. he keeps defenses honest better with his ability to hurt the defense with his scoring, he makes better decisions and when they bite he's simply a much better passer.

To be fair... most of those are probably Gobert giving the ball to Mitchell after a rebound.
They do a ton of passes outside on the perimeter. Pass and handoffs.

I guess this 2 passes a game thing is only in the post? Or right under the basket? What qualifies as a pass in this statistic?

When a player passes the ball to him
Anywhere on the court?

Didn't I read that Conley only passes the ball to Rudy 5.7 times per game. So Rudy only touches the ball 8 times a game from Mike and Don including top of the key, front court relief passing, and all other situations?

Seems weirdly low.

Anyone ever noticed how when Royce will set the pick and roll, he gets Royce the ball despite Royce being awful as a roll man?
