What's new

Game Thread Apr 08, 2022 07:30PM MT: Jazz vs. Suns

Added to Calendar: 04-08-22

I will say that I don't see the point of Royce. He had 1 bucket tonight on 1-of-4 shooting. He had 1 rebound in 28 minutes.

What exactly is the point? He's such a limited player.
All the games show his stat line with 0 to no production, he just enjoys the cardio I guess and Quin has a hard on for him

Eric P is Donovan's best friend
People will come up with any narrative to come after Donovan. The whole "Royce only plays because he's Don's buddy" is garbage. If being Don's buddy is all it takes to play, Paschall would play substantial minutes every game.

Just another example of people making stuff up to blame Donovan for our FO's inability to do a good job.

3 points, 2 assist, 1...1... rebound in 28 minutes.

I don't even understand how this is possible. He's the worst full time starter in NBA history.

FO is not blowing leads, turning the ball over, and taking selfish shots. Donovan is.

It seems like most of the discussion has been about our offensive problems down the stretch, and rightfully so, but our clutch defense is still a problem as well. Even after a horrible quarter to that point, we still had a two point lead with two minutes left, but the Suns scored easily on every remaining possession.

I’ve said this before but most of us on here grew up with a perspective on basketball from watching the Stockton and Malone Jazz and Jerry Sloan teams. Donovan grew up watching the Carmelo Knicks. Over the years, he’s defended Carmelo when people pointed out the obvious of him being a selfish checker who is a net negative to his team because of the way he plays. Unfortunately, it’s never occurred to DM that this is terrible basketball. The idea is that you have “the guy” who will “put his team on his back” and “will them to victory.” It’s a good movie storyline, but not actually a very good winning strategy. So he views his job as precisely finding the hardest pathway and most difficult shots because those are the “ooooh” and “aaaaaah!” shots when they fall. And if they only fall 20% of the time? Well, that 20% overshadows the 80%. I mean, you can even wave away the 80% as “they’re difficult shots! They’re not easy to make!” I imagine in his mind he’s taking the shots that are accompanied with “Oh my! Wow! Amazing! Donovan Mitchell!!! How does he do it?!!” Just win the ****ing game. Unfortunately, his coach has, directly or indirectly, reaffirmed that her needs to be seeking out the “OMG Donovan Yes!!” shots.

TLDR @MeloTheJazzKiller is right… Melo is still killing the Jazz.

I hope we could have capitalized on some easy free throws, but it wouldn't have mattered Phoenix was just playing with us. Bojan missed some shots down the stretch too

It wasn’t even hard for them… it was light work.

This late in the game Donovan's iso **** is so frustrating to watch. Why not let Mike initiate some possessions? Why do we suddenly stop using Rudy's screens? How can Donovan be efficient in clutch when everybody knows what to expect and he ends up taking a lay up over 2 defenders or turns it over? How the coach who is supposedly some analytical ”beautiful mind" can't see it? Does he think that it's beneficial for Donovan to learn something from this? You don't learn by repeating the same mistakes over and over.. Aaargh..!

I could live with iso ball in the last day 99 seconds of a game… most teams get there… it’s with 8-9 minutes left we start doing it. That’s how leads disappear so fast… we start acting like it’s the last possession well before we should.

Yeah by late in a game I meant last half of a quarter..

This is similar to a thought I had… I have a saying I throw out to describe people “Quin is the dumbest smart person”. I use it when undeniable smart people do dumb things they’ve done before.

Your example reminded me of my father in law. He’s made and lost more money in real estate development than I’ll make in like 10 lifetimes. I run my business in the same suite he runs his… and part of my job is stopping him from doing the obviously dumb thing he shouldn’t do that has caused him to go broke. He is smart enough to put together these deals that make millions but then he will talk about funding the next deal himself because investors aren’t sure about it… the next step is a personal guarantee on a loan… then the deal or market go south and one deal screws everything up. He’s done real well last few years and will never have to do another deal the rest of his life if he follows the rules I’ve laid out for him. His twi main investors are flush with cash… so he never needs to put a dime into the deal… they will also sign on the loans they need… but he doesn’t make as much in those deals and they aren’t always as sexy… plus they will turn down certain deals. Pretty simple rules I’ve given him. No deals without 100% investment from those two investors. Yet… weekly I have to talk with him to remind him “we don’t do it that way anymore… you are too old to risk that… I know it’s seems like it can’t fail but the market tanked before and you can lose everything.” I **** you not weekly I get his secretary or manager in my office asking me to talk with him. He’s smart enough to make millions but not smart enough to stop himself from making the mistakes that literally left him broke 3-4 times in his life.

Anyway… this is Quin and Don and the organization… no one to pull them out of denial and speak truth and remind them “hey we’ve done this **** up before… let’s not do it again”. They are super smart and talented but also dumb AF.
I think that's was Ingles job. We sent him away. Be careful or your family will trade you away for a janitor and gardener.

Maybe we need someone to hack in and change the quarter signifier on the scoreboard to the 3rd quarter during the break so they think they are still playing in the 3rd quarter even though it's the 4th.
