2022 NBA Draft Thread: We Going to Have a Pick! (lmao jk)

I mean this is all an exercise in futility. But the draft is how teams find good two-way players, at least that would be the case with the Jazz if they had any ****ing picks. So this is all an exercise in futility.

That being said, the only way I'm not drafting a prospect with real two-way promise is if they have substantial odds of becoming an all-star. The main issue with this team besides being ****ed in the head is that they don't defend.
I think that is the priority… they may not be amazing on one end but they need to project to hold up. I just think you have to focus on wings for the most part. If a guy has a very clear flaw that will prevent him from being a starter in a good team I think you have to consider waiting until the second round. Like Sengun in Houston is cute but the defense is always going to be a substantial problem if he’s playing more than 20 minutes on a good team. He’s super talented but there are a ton of fit issues.

It’s just crazy town that we drafted Tony Bradley when Hart and White were available and Udoka when Bane and McDaniels were staring us in the face. I also really wish we’d taken a chance in a guy like Caruso when he signed for like the BAE in LA. We had to take some swings on guys but we just played it too safe… trying to draft backup centers and slightly overpaying for small pgs when your other guard is not the ideal size.

Remember DL brought in Shaq Harrison.....or, at least I think he was on the team for a few weeks some time ago. Then we were developing Miye Oni to be our big-league defensive stopper. Jarrell Brantley was going to be our bad-*** PJ Tucker dude. Juwan Morgan was pretty tough too. And Rayjon Tucker was going to be our version of Lu Dort.

So that's 5 swings and 5 misses. Can't wait to see who else we place a bet on...

Still sad Oni didn't work out. So many tools and talents, but just lacked the ability to do anything at NBA speed despite being an elite athlete.

Like if you went to an empty gym with Oni on one side and Royce on the other and had them run through drills, Oni would undoubtedly look 100x better.

Royce needs to run seminars for fringe NBA prospects to teach them how to play in the NBA. Man could make millions.

Also, I'm not Anti-Dyson Daniels, I just don't think his offensive upside is as high as others. I love his defense.

I think he's a walking 17/6/6 who can defend three positions, knock down open shots, make floaters, and drive and kick. He's just not a guy who looks like he's going to do much in isolation.

Again, think of a bigger Goran Dragic. He's the kind of guy who can run your offense and also play off the ball and attack open spaces.

He's more like Andre Igoudala without the physical size, vertical pop, or ability to draw contact (as far as ceiling goes).

My flaming hot draft takes that I kind of actually believe:

- Mark Williams will be a better player than DeAndre Ayton.
- Wendell Moore ends up starting 15 games this year somewhere.
- Banchero wins rookie of the year and people will talk about how he fell to #3 and how dumb it was. He won't be the best player from this class.
- Memphis ends up trading Brooks on draft night and doing a medium to big move to bring in either Harrison Barnes, Jerami Grant... or Gordon Hayward (selling off Brooks and moving up the draft). They have a window this year to do something kind of like we had... doing nothing is a mistake.
- Portland doesn't trade their pick... with Schmitz on board now they let him make the pick.

Imo, Dalen Terry is a huge value pick in this draft if he stays in it. He's taller and longer than Mathurin, while being equally athletic. He's got more shift off the dribble, has excellent body control and is better at getting downhill than Mathurin. He plays with equal or better energy and anticipation on defense, resulting in a higher steal rate. Shooting isn't far behind. Still 19. Don't be surprised if he ends up in the top 20.

Also - Walker Kessler looks like a tall Dennis Lindsey.

I will accept Terry as our poor man's Dyson Daniels. Wonder if he could be Delon Wright with a better jumper.

I've been comparing him to Jeremy Lamb, but I think he's better off mentally than Lamb. Also a bit bigger. Terry measured out bigger than some people might have expected. He's about the same size as Herb Jones.

He's not the same caliber of on-ball player like Daniels, imo.

Tankathon has him at 39 in their mock. That's just way off. Easy 1st-round talent. Could go lottery next year if he returns to school.
