Jazz trade for John Collins

Only two teams hit 50 wins in the western conference last year. I think 47-48 is like the upper end of where we could end up... unless there is another big deal. 50 wins will be like top 3 in the conference going forward imo... I think we are a 5-6 seed on the high end and a lower play in team on the low end... good health assumed.

That's all I'm saying I guess... 50 wins gonna be different going forward.

I know what I said and stand by it but you’re being too literal. The general point is we are going to be a playoff caliber team or thereabouts which will give us hope but clearly have a ceiling that is not remotely that of a contender. It’s settling. Imo.

Maybe Collins will prove me wrong. Maybe he’s never had a real coach until Quin and Hardy will get a lot out of him. Idk. But this contract, while not awful, definitely restricts us going forward.

I have a similar feel... one thing I'd caution though... his value being rock bottom. If he plays the same as he did last year his value goes down... the case is he was used wrong the finger... yada yada... that stuff is gone if he doesn't play better (he'd have one year less on his deal so maybe not a ton less value). Just think this is his current rock bottom... doesn't mean he couldn't drop further.
Yep. Once you lose the mystery and can no longer say a bad year was just an aberration, you can't see rock bottom.

For me the biggest question is - can we really not do any better than this in FA? Is this the best player we can get for 25M a year over the next 3 years?
As a player that is fair. My question is what about short term deals though... is this the best asset we can get for that?

I thought I trolled this forum. Either people on this forum are delusional/just want the Jazz to legitimately lose every game, or the organization can't do the couch warriors what they want.

This off-season has already been a homerun for the Jazz. We don't have to watch Gay 15-20 minutes a game, we got a 25 year old for him. We've added a lot of young, athletic talent, that can shoot, and it's not even July 1st. Ya'll need to stop trolling so hard
Collins is an upgrade to Gay at the cost of nothing really since they have to meet the salary floor if JC walks. But anyone who thinks the recent version of Collins has anything to do with location is going to be dissappointed. There is a reason the Hawks dumped him for nothing.
Many of the fools on here that are happy about this thought wee would have to trade someone good to get him smh

Cool, the Cavs gave us Lauri when everyone thought he'd be out of the league after joining us too,

Collins going to ball the **** out and fans of others teams are going to be pissed that we got him for free.
Collins will ball out just like Lauri did coming to Utah. Collins was put into a coma standing in the corner every time down never to hardly seeing the ball, in Utah when we get him in transition goin to see some monster dunks, also rebounds well and has emotion when awake and involved, plus those 2 first rounders hawks wanted are ours still.

Lauri's glow up was awesome... something like that may not happen again... I would not be chasing Lauri 2.0 glow up on guys.

Not sure that is the idea here but if it is... not a big fan.
Speaking of Lauri, taking this deal eats into basically all of the flexibility the Jazz would've had before doing the renegotiate and extend the following year.

In other words, this is pretty much it now for building in the next two years. I don't think they flip Collins for at least another season and a half.

This is not the same. The Finnisher never got the kind of usage we gave him in CHI or CLE.
Collins was that guy before he got busted, and has never been the same.
If he goes back to being the player he was 4 years ago, great I am wrong.
the odds say otherwise

It's funny to me people dislike this trade when they loved the Hendricks pick

Collins is the more talented version of Hendricks.
I love Hendricks but if Hendricks turned into Collins that would be a win. Just a few years ago before the Hawks went Trae centric he averaged 20/10 on good efficiency.

You CANNOT rely on those type of developments with every single player you trade for. This is NOT sustainable.

The Jazz didn't do that trade for Lauri Markkanen. They did it mainly for the picks. Lauri just won most improved NBA player. Expecting that type of improvement IMO is fool's errand.
Is it? Dude averaged 22 ppg one year.

I remember earlier in the year someone here posting a link to some Hawks board, where people there were legitimately saying that Collins should be traded for Lauri and that's it.

What a difference half a year makes.
