Jazz trade for John Collins

Collins will start and play minutes next to Kessler, but he will effectively be the backup C (on offense) and I’m excited. Even if he only has 9 working fingers he’s still an animal around the basket, one of the very best in the entire league. His combo of size+athleticism+hands+ touch is actually unique.

I know the team isn’t all about Collins, but this is an amazing situation for him to thrive in. Now we get Micic?

Exactly. And they were all saying that Hendricks is raw. Anyone who doesn’t see this as a win is just crazy…
No Collins WAS a really good NBA player, he is not the same guy. It is obvious to everyone in the Hawks org. even though they clearly were trying to paint the picture that he was just having a down year trying to get value back in a trade for the past 2 seasons since he got busted. Fact is , he COULD get back to who he once was, but the odds it happens when he was so meh for 2 season that they never even tried to get him involved in the offense, says all I need to know about his ability or lack thereof

He’s 18 years old. He will need time before he can start against men.
He’s 19.5 and I agree… but raw is not the term I’d use. I think he will be more functional than most rookies at his age because of his skill set and athleticism. On a good team he likely deserves 15-20 minutes a night… on a **** team he’s fine to start earlier in his career. Raw is like what Bilal is.

A early first quarter sub of Collins for Hendricks or KO will come and then you might match Collins with Dunn (who was shockingly awesome in PnR last year when I looked it up).

Gonna be interesting to see how they mix and match… Hardy has some weapons/options and seems like a flexible dude.

Sure maybe Collins can hook him up with his connections in SLC I am sure they can rebuild him smh
This optimism surrounding Collins as if he hasn't been deplorable since he got busted or didn't just get traded for chump change is laughable
Hendricks is not raw, he is not weak, he is one the most nba ready prospects in the draft smh

Lots of us see it. Rookies take time though. If Hendricks is good enough to push JC for playing time that’s an amazing problem to have. Year 2 if it is stunting his growth we maybe do something about it.
Eh, I'm more concerned about the combo of using all 3 draft picks to pick players and then trading for redundancy. Just tells me that there are likely more moves coming.

I wonder if the naysayers can find someone who hates this move from our perspective and represents one of the following:
A) National media
B) Jazz beat writers
C) Hawks beat writers
D) Hawks fan base

So far Ive tried searching but weirdly everyone seems to like this trade for us and be sad/neutral for the Hawks having to do this.

Oh and about the opportunity cost and handicapping our cap flexibility... Bobby Marks did a vid where he was high praising our cap and roster flexibility after the trade. Apparently now we have both healthy current/future cap numbers as well as awesome collection of moveable salaries.
That’s what I keep saying. It’s a no brainer…

His efficiency was pretty good post AS break last year. Collins will be fine with an expanded role and better coaching.

I swear Ainge finally started building the perfect team around Don but after trading him.

A range of options for PF and C. A great SF. Scorers.

If we would have just used a Rudy pick last summer to get Lauri (who was clearly available), we would be a free agent addition of Bruce Brown away from being a real deal contender.

Oh well. But I still like what we are doing.
Meh, we just drafted "Don at Home."

if there isn't it just means they are banking on Collins in higher usage that he got last season, imporving his stats enough to flip him at the deadline as part of a Sexton trade to land somdbody Ainge really wants here. Or its just about my first assumption of reaching the salary floor if JC walks which he probably should now that they drafted his replacement in KG

Talent is talent is talent. Job of a good GM is to go get talent for the coaches to work with. If the Jazz have any cap space left, I fully expect them to add another player and roll with that group - at least until the trade deadline.

Collins >> Vando/Gay

At the end of the day, it’s an upgrade. Top-down roster building. Definitely a fan of that strategy.

We have about 24 mill.....and that's without knowing THT and JC. They have 3 days to decide

If they give him the keys to this team then I would expect him to have a big year. Something in the realm of 20pts, 6asts, 3rbs and 1.5stls a game.
Ya that is about what I was thinking too

If Lauri is playing primarily as a 3 and Collins/Hendricks play a little 3, then it feels like there are still plenty of minutes to go around.

I'm not a huge KO fan, so I'm fine if goes, but I like the idea of Hendricks getting some playing time next to some more passing. It also feels like Hendricks could make up for some of KOs defensive and rebounding issues.
Everything that Hendricks is missing from his game is contained in Olynyk. I'm OK with letting them hang out a bit.

Hey dude. Likewise! I'm glad you're still here.

Overall, I'm good. Massive career overhaul. In the next few months I'll be moving across the country to the woods of western Massachusetts. We're just about to close a deal on a 19 acre lot and build a house, which has been a dream for 5-6 years now.
Any place to fish around your land?
