Herro Rumors

Latest news is we are willing to trade players and a pick for Herro. That’s what we should be looking at. THT + KO + first would be perfect to me. Looking at our salary cap we have to include two of THT/KO/Sexton to make any deal work.
The real upside for me in giving up Sexton + THT straight up for Herro would be clearing up space at our guard rotation for Keyonte George, and that would still banking on Herro's development and a salary cap expending big so that we could get the value of that contract to go up so that it has value in future trade scenarios.

The notion of giving a first for a player that's nearly a JC copy with a better 3 point shot (which is the direction I see his actual upside, looking to form his game through shooting around the catch, on motion, coming off screens, as a Desmond Bane, Klay, Buddy Hield, Bogdanovic type sniper/scorer, not as an actual playmaker/ballhandler), but at a worse iso capacity, yet making 120/4 guaranteed is ludicrous (negative contract simply put), maddening sick to me.

And If we're really looking to compete this year (which I guess wouldn't be only to convey our 2024 pick to OKC at a perceived weaker draft, but also to impress Markkanen to sign a new contract, as showing a franchise that should be back to contention while he's still in his prime, not one that should start to be actually good only in 4 years time) without a clear established playmaker, and our forward/center rotation including Collins, Kessler and yet to be established players, you're really looking to keep Olynyk at least for this season for both his passing, shooting and veteran savviness.

And they said they weren't including KO, so Sexton gone

Markkanen is signing the extension even if we go 0-82.

We have more assets than we can use. Similar to OKC, who has been combining first round picks to move up a couple of slots.
No such thing as too many assets… they are all years out too… no reason to burn them for nothing. OKC used some of their lesser picks to get a late lotto pick a year ago.

That said I’m fine with putting a pick into the Herro deal if DA feels it’s a good use… but don’t touch the 2025 picks.

Gotta keep all our Cooper Flagg lotto tickets…

There was enough attention around him for that he'd be on the radar for bigger markets If he wanna test free agency once his contract is up, especially If he's able to repeat the level of success he had last season.

If we're willing to go on a route that points around being able to start being competitive around Agbaji, Kessler, George and Hendricks second contracts and not his prime, i'd say it's only normal for him to look to move on instead of only looking for postseason success when getting to his thirties.

Looks like the person who said Jazz would give up a pick with tht/Sexton is a known person who just makes stuff up

He told Ainge he loved the Jazz and asked if he was safe to buy a house. He then bought that house. Then there were media reports that his intentions are to sign a long-term contract in Utah. And I haven’t even brought up how agents are reacting to the new CBA.

He’s signing.

Clarkson, George, Dunn
Herro, Agbaji, Wainright
Markkanen, Fontecchio, sensabaugh
Collins, Hendricks, Samanic
Kessler, Olynyk, Yurtseven

I can live with that roster. Sexton is one of my current favorite players so it hurts but I like that roster

Six first rounders in the next 3 years?

Two will probably pan out.

Some may be parlayed of course.
We have 4 in the next 3 years (3 of which come in 2025), and then 7 in the following 3 years (4 in 2027, 1 in 2028, 3 in 2029).

Theoretically we could have 1 extra FRP if the one we owe to OKC doesnt convey, but that would require next 3 years of our own pick landing in top 8-10.

Swaps are in 2026 (best of UTA, MIN and CLE) and 2028 (better of UTA and CLE).

I disagree

Yup, at some point you find yourself trading 3 first to draft Osumaine Dieng.

I find hoarding the picks really really stupid.

That being said, you obviously can't be willy-nilly. There's really no way of knowing the "optimal" usage of the picks.

Lol… y’all saying we got too many picks is like saying someone got too much money… they will figure something out. Y’all are like my kids… get $20 in your pocket and gotta go to target.

BTW OKC had Jalen Williams higher than Dieng on their draft board. They acquired that pick and used it on Dieng instead of Williams because of the trade fell through for some reason they’d still get their guy. So we can lol them for using three of their protected picks to get the #11 or 12 or whatever it was but Williams factored into that thinking and he’s been pretty good I’d say.

Yes, they will use them. OKC using 3 to get DIeng was still using them, but holding on to them waiting for the perfect moment can backfire.

Well we can wait more than 5 minutes for a good moment. We are really far away from the point where we can’t responsibly utilize all of the picks… we have at least 2-3 years before starting to worry about that.
