Jrue will not be cheap. Will require a starter on a rookie deal like Ochai.
It just seems to be a bit too mismatched for where we are. If we were a bit farther along, we could justify paying that. If it was an all-in move, it makes sense. We're not in striking distance of being all-in.

It's not. I just wanted a vibe of if people wanted a young guy with potential or an older vet who is already there. It's a hypothetical two choice question
It is an option... irl... which is what I was saying.

I get that... but I have also been confused about where we are... and how we get where we need to go. Jrue would be either the move before the move... or he would be the intermediate move that we could hopefully get some value from if we need to move off of him.

If you have Jrue/Lauri/Walker... you have room to acquire almost any primary engine/scorer in a mega trade and have them fit. We have JC to hold down things now... If you have that in place and Luka asks out? Could be a few options but they all fit.

If Keyonte is Don 2.0 or .50... and you had Jrue already then maybe you are on to something. If Taylor or Brice are good right away you might move John Collins and stuff for another big piece and you are there.

I'm not advocating for it per se... but it would help me understand where we thing we are.

The absolute key to me is not Jrue's age or timeline... its his contract and willingness to extend.

Jrue might be the best point of attack guy... if you add him to Walker and Lauri... the defense might be like top 4-5. If the contract stuff looks like it will line up I think the high cost now might look just fine... if we did have a follow up move in the next 6-12 months or if Key/Taylor/Brice glow up... look out.

If Lauri takes the next step and is Him this season it's a huge disservice to him if we only have this current roster around him.

The best case for not trading right now is that THT and Sexton can both significantly raise their trade value with a good first half performance

Was listening to the Athletic pod and one guy mentioned how Jrue at the point of attack is what makes Brook so effective as a rim protector. Being able to drop because the point of attack guy makes the ball handler take bad angles and is up in the guy is the thing that unlocks drop bigs.

He also fits the biggest position of need with the things we need most.

Man - I went from pass to I really kinda want this to happen real fast. If it does happen I know they will have at least kicked tires on the extension.

Jrue's on/off impact over his career is bonkers. This might be like a 7-10 win swing.

If we land Jrue I think its Sexton, THT, Ochai and 2 firsts. Sexton routed to a third team like Indiana for an expiring contract and some seconds maybe.
I'm not really a huge Ochai fan either(he showed his warts in summer league) but I think you underrate the value of him and Sexton.

Maybe Sexton + THT + Simone + 1FRP could get it done? Sexton could be rerouted to a team like Orlando who would send another FRP (Denver '25) + expiring salary(Harris/Anthony) to Portland so they end up with two FRPs. That would be an actual deal I'd consider with Jazz only sending out one 1st.. Not sending 2 FRP's for Jrue at his age and potential expiring contract. *Maybe* send out someone like Sensabaugh instead of Simone if it moved the needle.. Regardless of Jrue, I think Ainge is patiently waiting for a big fish who matches the Lauri/Kessler timeline to eventually come available so it will be important to keep the asset warchest full as possible.

FWIW I met Jrue a handful of times in the early 2010's. I was living in Chatsworth outside LA and Jrue would run his basketball camp at a church down the street. My son was in grade school at the time and Jrue was one of the nicest people you could meet. Patiently took pictures with my son too. Even back then he was saying he would finish his career in LA. After playing on those Milwuakee teams I would guess he would be all about playing for a contender or playing back home in LA.

The Saint Cy Effect

The choice for me is Holiday. I think It makes it a little harder because Sexton would need to be routed to a third team but Sexton + THT + filler + 2 firsts does seem like what the deal would have to be.

I don't know if there is a first out ther for Sexton. If the Clips are on the table I can see Jrue telling Utah he won't sign an extension if we trade for him... in which case you bow out imo. The contract is the biggest concern for me.

Danny Ainge and Joe Cronin sit down together for a beer and talk about how much they hate Pat Riley. Afterwards they do a Jrue deal and ring Riley's doorbell, leaving behind a paperbag of flaming poop.

Maybe the Heat would take on Sexton and help us facilitate a Jrue trade.

Sexton fits Heat culture and they need scoring off the bench.

Look... emotions were clearly involved... play on those emotions. We have worked with Portland before... I could see this happening.
