What Price Should the Jazz Extend THT?

Since Cy likes taking away games to inflate stats if you take away one game last year where THT went 6/11 from 3 he was 22/80 (27.5%) as a starter.

Did you know that if you remove the games where he shot less than 40% (since he won't do that anymore) and removed games where everyone else shot above 40% (since some of those are inflated with things like banked threes and garbage time), then THT is actually the most efficient player in the association last year? You wanna low ball that guy?
I would low ball him lol… that is kind of the nature of extensions. He has a similar year to last year and he gets taxpayer MLE type money imo… that’s a dangerous zone to be in as it can quickly end up BAE type money. If he is better than last year he may get MLE type money. If he is A LOT better he might get in that 60-80M tier.

If I as a GM have to commit long term money and take you completely out of the trade conversation for the year it needs to be worth it. Whatever you think is a fair deal… cut 10- 20% and we are in the deal zone. Pritchard just signed for 4/30… I’m using that as a comp if I’m having these conversations…

100%. I would even be a little hesitant to go the 4/40M I suggested.

Sometimes I wonder if we’re talking about the same guy. THT last year as a starter in the back half of the season:

43.4% from the field on 15.6 FGA per game, 30.8% from 3 on 4.6 3PTA per game and to top it off 3.6 TO per game.

Sign me up for 4/80M.

Speaking of Sexton since he’s being used as a comp for some reason:

54.4% from the field on 11.4 FGA per game, 38.5% from 3 on 2.8 3PTA per game and 2.1 TO per game as a starter last year.

The guy who is more exponentially more efficient and less turnover prone is who I would rather have.

I think Sexton is a good money comp IF they think they (meaning the Jazz brass) think that he's a similar player. Security/risk goes both ways and no player is guaranteed to get more/less money in FA. It's not always players taking a pay cut for security, teams can "overpay" in extensions to remove the risk of losing the player for nothing. THT opting in was a clear sign that at the time he likely could not have received a good contract. But now that he's seemingly won the starting job I think his position has substantially improved. I don't even think I had minutes projected for him this summer, so he's definitely exceeded my expectations in camp.

I think Sexton has a more proven track record, but if THT is beating him out in camp....it's not unreasonable to think that they are viewed in a similar light. And if we Sexton's contract as a good contract (I Do), you must think THT is significantly worse for 4/$60 to be an egregious deal. If you view them as similar, 4/$60 would be a steal. Especially if the last year is a team option which is what I would expect to be the case.

I actually like tht but threads like this and talking about it in every other thread makes it harder to like him

Legit love that some posters are such babies they let things like a poster really liking a player bother them so much that it changes their opinion.

THT is significantly worse in my opinion. If he ends up starting and crushes it I’ll gladly be wrong. I am a Jazz fan first and fans of players second so if he helps us win I would be ecstatic.

I still really like tht and love to watch him play and think he should be the starter because he’s an interesting player but all the threads with contradictions and cherry picked stats are getting getting old like obviously he’s improving on his 3 point shot but he’s not amazing and there’s really no need for this thread or putting down sexton to make tht look better because he’s a really fun player to

When we traded for THT I told yall he would become a key player for the Jazz and he did.

I told yall all off-season THT would be the starter and it happened.

Maybe listen to me cuz I can tell the future on THT.
