What Price Should the Jazz Extend THT?

So it turns out that the Jazz (or Hardy at least) does see THT on par with Sexton. But it also turns out that Sexton is nowhere close to a value deal. So yeah, not a good reference point for a THT deal lol.
I mean the entire season Will has gone with THT over Sexton as the primary on ball option for 2nd unit offense. Everyone can sit here and bag on THT (deservedly so for the most part), but the coach is making daily admissions that the team likes THT > Sexton and Sexton is paid more and longer. It's a horrendous contract to be on currently. We are stuck with this 6'1 SG who cant defend.

I think Sexton and THT would both be in the market for mini MLE, prove it type of deals this summer. Lucky for Sexton he's locked into a much more lucrative deal than that. Not so lucky for the Jazz.

I think Sexton has more trade value than THT. Now THT has an expiring contract so that will be helpful but Sexton would definitely appeal to a contender who needs scoring off the bench. THT just flat out sucks.

Sexton 100% has worse trade value. Nobody wants that contract. THT is at least expiring. They both suck.

Shop his sorry bum out. The game flow is vital for the future Jazz identity, and I see zero makings in THT to help with that. Sexton we can at least use as a catch and shoot microwave scorer, and Dunn might provide hustle off the bench, while also not stopping the game flow all the time. And JC is our only semi nice ball handling guard so we have use for him. THT has no starter upside by eye-test and his years in the league so far, and off the bench we going to have cheaper and better options. Why should we keep him... Trade is incoming. It will be a part of package.

All contracts are good cuz the cap going up a billion dollars.

I think Sexton is salvageable but if given an opportunity to get off his money I'd take it. I think those two have to be separated. Its just too much nonsense on the court at the same time. I think having a super solid backup pg coming in with Sexton in the second unit could help insert him in his best role and help smooth out the rough nights. The second unit offense where THT and Sexton run a two man weave where they pass the ball back and forth looking for who knows what for 10 seconds... and then one of them takes their turn finding an iffy shot... that offense must go one way or another.

You could maybe sneak in a Sexton trade. I think he's clear negative at his price tag, but maybe not the worst player at his price tag. I'm just done with both guys at this point.

I think if we were maximizing the performance of the team this year we would do well to find a replacement for JC and slide him into the bench gunner role while offloading both guys. Since I doubt that is what we are prioritizing I think the best value prop is to do some roster pruning and help Sexton be effective and as consistent as possible in the bench gunner role.

I literally groan when both guys check in together. Its not fun.

Milwaukee was rumored to want him. You guys go overboard on Sexton too much. He’s one of the most efficient scoring guards in the league. Someone would easily talk themselves into taking him on.

People were expecting Sexton to take a step after last year though and he has regressed...

In what way has he regressed? He looks like a better passer this year. He’s only getting 20 MPG. Dude can only do so much playing next to THT for damn near every minute of his playing time:

I mean, we can say the same thing about THT having to play next to Sexton...

The whole beat writer twitter spaces were they act like the Jazz are worried about THT's trade value makes 0 sense. (I think that's some Sarah Todd BS she has been pedaling since pre-season)

Worst case THT is a 10 million expiring contract which is just fine value.

It would make much more sense to be worried about Sexton's trade value.

Sexton taking more 3's, including contested ones, is probably more progress than regression.
Is that true? Let's see what tracking says:

Top is last year, bottom is this year. So he is taking more wide open 3's this year and shooting better on the "open" shots. So the tracking doesnt bare out what you are saying.

The biggest difference is last year Sexton shot an insane % on pull ups 3's and this year he is shooting 28% on those same shots.
