Taylor Hendricks Hype Thread

If Lauri re-signs long term they can definitely do another round of sell-offs featuring Sexton/Clarkson/Dunn (assuming he gets re-signed to a team friendly deal).

I mean they can....but are they really going to get away with quitting on Lauri/team 3 years in a row? Lauri seems like a good solider who won't cause waves (he has though in the past). But I don't think you can "big picture" the fan base so many times in a row.

I think that's the same point @Saint Cy of JFC is making. I mean, it should be obvious that his value will continue to go down if he doesn't show growth and it will go up if he does.

This was the last year DA can get way with quitting on the team IMO. We should expect the Jazz to try to significantly upgrade their talent level and ability to win, if not.....man what are we even doing. If the Jazz do not believe in TH, it would be better to trade him sooner rather than later.
I don't know... trade value isn't an exact science. I just think at this current point, playing him will either increase or have a very small decrease in his value... and the hurdle to increase his value won't be super high. Like shoot corner threes at the 44% he has thus far. make that more than 50% of his shot diet. Do some interesting things on defense.

This summer is a big pivot point. Hit a homerun in the draft, have a player level way up, trade for a major contributor... if not quit playing and just go to the process.

Love this perspective from Tony Jones that I hadn't considered before. From Tony's great article on the Athletic today:

But this is where he is raw. Most important this offseason is he needs to hit the weight room every day. He must become stronger. He also needs to become a lot more confident on offense. You can argue that will come with time, experience and a belief that he can be good at the NBA level. The biggest difference between Hendricks and Utah’s rookie point guard Keyonte George lies here.

George spent most of his upbringing as one of the best players in his age group. He played for Team USA. He was a McDonald’s All-American. George knew from an early age that he would be playing in the NBA. He came into the NBA confident that he belonged. George being drafted by the Jazz at No. 16 lower from where he was ranked as a player for years.

Hendricks never experienced that. He wasn’t a consistent top-100 kid in high school. He was an unknown heading into UCF. In that aspect, he’s had much more of a learning curve than George.

If anybody is on the fence about subscribing to see Tony's work, just pay for it. It's great.

Yeah, Pat started all 71 games he played in as a young 19 year old rookie and that team was actually trying to win. They traded for Vuc half way through to do so. Even if you don't think he was good, it's clear that Bulls believed in him which is why he would be untouchable. He got more minutes than Lauri lol. Getting complete opposite signs from TH....whose playing time is being seen as waving the white flag on this season.

I actually think Pat Williams is a decent player comp though.....Hendricks will need a lot of development to get onto Pat's level, however.
Yeah I think that is a good and reasonable comp for Hendricks.

Completely agree about the confidence thing but he most definitely was not even close an unknown heading into UCF. He played with some of the most high profile guys in high school and could certainly have gone to a bigger school but wanted to stick with his brother a little longer.

So you knew who Taylor Hendricks was before the college season started?

Hendricks being the 9th overall pick after having a composite HS rank of 67th (according to 247, who had him ranked 84th) is incredibly rare for a one and done player.

If you aren't in the top 50 of your class, it's pretty rare for you to be one and done, much less a lottery pick.

You're really nitpicking if you're pushing back on Hendricks being an unknown prospect in draft circles prior to the season starting. He might have been a footnote in the biggest draft junkies pre-season outlooks.

The only other guy who comes to my mind in recent years was Josh Primo, who had a huge range among the scouting services, (247 had him in the 20's while others had him in the 80s or not even in the top 100) and we saw how that turned out (even before the weird **** he was not looking good).

I’m sure it’s easier to adjust when you were a blue chip and have been a blue chip recruit for a long time….but I also think Key’s confidence is innate and realistically the reason why he’s accepted by his peers and the coach is that they think he’s good. Likewise, I think TH is probably just not naturally as confident and probably got cooked in training camp.

If Hendricks was playing well, they’d be talking about his background has helped him and he has a chip on his shoulder. If Keyonte was struggling, they’d say it’s because he’s a spoiled primadonna or whatever. These things are nice to write stories about, but you can spin it whichever way you want.

Dont let Taylor meet with the team therapist too much!

Just think we could’ve had Whitmore instead.

Look I am the driver and one of the few leftover passengers on the Tay Henny bus... I had Whitmore higher on my board too. The behind the scenes stuff better have been very damning (medicals, attitude, college coach stuff).

I think Whitmore must have told half the teams in the league he didn't want to play there.

Pisses me off Dok was #2 on their draft board but they took Whitmore off completely. Should’ve just kept DM and Gobert. My faith in the jazz ability to build a contender is seriously waning.
It's the Utah stigma. I'm sure they are surveying the possible big-names out there and finding precious few that will agree to spending any length of time in Utah.

Rudy and Don together was not working but they for sure should have kept one of the two and built around whomever they kept. We would be much better off and still have some good flexibility. I look forward to the day that we once again look forward to game day 82 nights a year instead of draft day and the trade deadline. I do agree that the reaction from the players, and FINALLY from a few media members might mean we don't blow it up again at the deadline next year. IMO this summer the Jazz have to do something serious to get us better.

This. I keep thinking how awesome it would be to see Lauri with Gobert, and that could have happened.

Have said that myself a number of times on this board. In this market you simply cant dump HOF type players who really want to be here and really want to win.
