Following Potential 2025 Draftees

Who do we think the Suns are targeting at 10? They need a big man in the worst way. Seems like they could be a Queen team.

Jase Richardson of course.

I think they go big, but Maluach will be off the board and Queen isn’t the type of big they need. Do they go Beringer? Right type of player, but he’s underdeveloped. I wonder if they try to trade back and pick up a vet C who can play right now.

The only problem with the "feel" analysis is that grabbing a kid at 19 years old is probably the most inopportune time to judge their "feel."

It is also kinda crap. The draft is littered with kids who had "feel" but couldn't keep up athletically. There is a minimum line of athleticism or physical structure that you must possess to play in the NBA, so it is OK to begin an analysis of a player based upon those measurables.

But, if you insisted on using this as a guidepost, you would need to put Egor Demin up there on your list. Dude knows where everyone is on the court.

Elite players move more intelligently and effectively than the average players. This applies on both offense and defense. They have advanced timing, nuance and the vision to make plays that average players can't make.

Fears has feel. Tre has feel. Knueppel has feel. Derik Queen has feel. CMB has feel. Jase Richardson has feel. Raynaud and Beringer have some feel. Essengue has a bit of feel.

Having elite physical tools or an elite skill level does help bring a player's feel to life though.

Kasparas makes no sense. They already have a very crowded backcourt. They need a big wing like Carter Bryant/Coward or a big like Queen/Malauch/Beringer.

As crowded as their backcourt is, they don't really have a point guard. A guard with some size to can run the team or play off the ball fits well. As for other things, they're very likely going to make more trades.

Feel is also not the end-all, be-all. Kenny Lofton Jr. has great feel.

Whatever word we use for why some players have the ability to surpass other players who were drafted higher or in the same neighborhood, I don't think we know what it fully is (or maybe it's not just one thing). If we use "feel," it could be argued that Cody was expected to have (and maybe does have) pretty good feel. We'll see if it salvages his career in the long run, I guess.

I think the larger point is that it's just really hard and seems to be getting harder to predict who's going to have staying and even star power in the League. Rather than ascribe this to some deficit in scouting strategy, I'm more prone to think this owes more to changes in the pool and preparation of players as well as changes in how the game is played.
