Keyonte George Hype & Appreciation Thread

I will say I am still firmly on the Keyonte George believer Island. I don’t know why but I just have a feeling he’s going to be really good for a long time he’s only 21 years old and the flashes are there if he can put the ball in the hoop with any sort of consistency he is atleast a sixth man of the year level player

Drafting a guy you hope is your 6th man gunner off the bench when you already have a prospect you hoped would be your 6th man gunner off the bench feels like a pretty strong signal.

Both guys are 6'3" SGs with mediocre wingspans, they're too small to be anything but gunners off the bench without massive and unlikely passing development.
21 years old is too young to say what a player will or won't be.

I mean, I don't know how else to take the Walter Clayton Jr pick, lol.
so in the nba draft, teams will often take what is sometimes referred to as "best player available". on the interwebs, you'll see it typed out as BPA. it's probably that's what the Jazz considered Walter Clayton. but just taking a stab in the dark.

The issue here is that both guys are so duplicative and play an archetype where duplication is very bad and where teams around the league refuse to trade for this archetype.

So the overlap is so horrendous that any sense of BPA vs. fit has to lean towards fit this late in a draft class as there's probably like 5 guys around the same tier at least.

But instead, they picked a guy who, if good, will render Keyonte George (a player with no hypothetical trade value) of 0 value to the team

you pick the best player available. if he renders somebody else on the roster useless, so be it. it means you made a good pick and the other guy wasn't good enough. the nba is a dog eat dog world. put up or shut up.

on the other hand. both guys can play with or without the ball. if they are both good, they can both play and play together.

No, they can't, lol. They're way too small and they're pure SGs, just very undersized.

Agree generally that Keyonte does seem redundant at this point. Still think he has long-term potential as a 6th-man, microwave scorer type. But I like the WCJ / Collier combo more. I think WCJ is our starter but he can also play off the ball.

We're not trying to win anything right now. There's plenty of playing time for Key and WCJ. Cut bait with Key if you don't believe in him or if there's a decent offer for him, but if you want to develop both there's no reason you can't. Have no idea why people are so obsessed with how players fit on a tanking team.

It's not the short-term fit that is the issue, the long-term fit just sucks. It cuts down on potential upside a lot if you specifically draft two players that could never play together on a good team even if they hit their potential. For two centers or whatever, you could trade one of them, but it's clear that gunner guards are untradeable as of now. I would guess the Jazz wouldn't make this selection if they believed in Keyonte.

Keyonte and Carter were picked at 16 and 18, EXACTLY where you pick players of their type. We just moved 2 combo guards and added 1. I still think they are going to try to run Carter at the point.

How many all nba defensive teams has steph curry been a part of?
I get what you’re saying, but Steph in his prime was a surprisingly solid defender, and when he wasn’t, he was able to get away with it because he’s one of the greatest offensive perimeter players ever. It’s a poor example to use when defending Keyonte.

I get what you are saying but keyonte was a much better nba defender than steph was when he was the same age as keyonte was last year since he was playing for Davidson college when he was 20.

If Keyonte can up his defense to mediumish in the league and not get so much tunnel vision then, I am still on board. I do think his efficiency will go up. Also, I feel like he is better when he is off-ball.
