Favors/Kanter vs Gasol/Randolph

Favors' two things he REALLY needs to do is make his post game just good enough to punish small-ball 4s and can a spot up jumper on the outer corners of the key. Not just for himself, but mostly for the team.
I don't think Favors needs a post game. With his skillset, he should be working on a faceup game, as he's shown an ability, at times, to get around defenders and explode to the rim. Of course, to make that effective he's going to have to be able to hit open Js from the short corner (and free throw line). Without the J, he's going to be a liability on O. That 15 foot jumper should be THE thing he works on this summer (with improving his body a distant second).

I don't think he even needs a three point shot, just a consistent jumper from about 15 feet would be great. I think we give up rebounding when our center steps outside the three point line. I guess it would give Favors more room to work on his post game though.

He doesn't need to, but it would add another dimension to his game and make him one of the most unique players in the league. I can't recall a player who was the strongest, most physical guy on the court that could also punish you from downtown.

Kevin Love?

You are an idiot.

b_line, me vs you is like the hulk vs hellen keller. you must have me mistaken with someother *******, you are barking up the wrong tree.
come at me bro

why dont you try to actually counter my points? quote me and call bs. resorting to namecalling is usually what children do, correct? (someone with kids help me on this one)

He can't post because he can't dribble for ****. I really wanted more of his beautiful baseline fadeaway, but he can't dribble to set it up consistently. Rasheed Wallace potential with a dribble and fixed shot.

Randolph before and after Memphis are completely different people and situations. If you still think he is the same guy from that ny team, you have not seen the grizzlies in the last few years.

This. Randolph is hardly overrated at the moment, if anything he is underrated.

Some of each would help. I think long run he will be fine with the 15 footer, he looks like he has good form and shot 70% on free throws.

Kanter adding a 3 would be wonderful, don't see why he can't. Remember how big a shot that was with Memo? Remember Perkins with those late daggers?

If we could just get past the legacy of Ole Jer and his hatred for the commie three-ball, that would be a big improvement.

Marc Gasol is one of the most versatile and skilled Center I have seen. He can do about anything on both sides.

But his defense is definitely overrated. He has bad quickness, doesn't run the floor well and is a below average athlete that makes these shortcomings up with IQ and very good length and size.

7.8 Rebounds per game for a Center that won the DPOY and played around 35 minutes per game is way too low. Still, he is a top 3 Center, imo.

Randolph is not a factor on the defensive end. A Carlos Boozer type of player, imo. Needs a defensive big next to him.

Favors and Kanter are more athletic, can run the floor much better and have better defensive/rebounding potential while they might not reach the level of the Gasol/Randolph duo on the offensive end.

A prime Favors will give you at least 14 - 10 - 3 and a prime Kanter 18 - 11. They won't be worse than the Gasol/Randolph duo. A good distributing PG would do wonders.

I expect the Kanter/Favors duo to soon become the best Big man duo in the NBA.

no one ever, ever, ever said that they wanted Zach Randolph over Derrick Favors. Favors is young, good and getting better. But at the same token, if you can not see that Randolph is and has been a good player for Memphis, then you are blind. You come in here talking about how he sucked with NY Knicks. That is ancient history, and anyone who has been watching basketball in the past 5 years has seen that Randolph has truly been a force. You are an idiot.

keep calling names, it always reveals ones true character.

you might see things from the perspective of a jazz fan ( 0 championships in almost 40 years)

first and foremost, I am a yankees fan (27 championships in the past 90 years)

zach randolph = a regular season player. aka does just enough to fool ya, but crumbles when it counts.

even if you like him, i say you cant win championships with a player like that... (will ZBO prove me wrong on that?)

when has any team paying zach randolph a lions share done anything...

Shareef Abdur-Rahim, 2.0 with worse attitude. been saying it for most of my adult life, you guys can sing the praises of Zbo i will not

hes the featured offensive player and scored 2 points LOL 2 points. the spurs are rushing him and he cant handle it at all

Well, at least he is in the western conference finals. Also, no one ever said that they wanted to trade Favors for Z Bo.

thats what i mean though, zbo's the type of player you finally get to the WCF with and then it hits you, hes been doing everything in his power all year, now that hes up against top coaches/big's at his position who are game planning for him, he can be stopped.

is zbo much more skilled than Milpsap? i dont think so

you speak like Zbo is better now and favors is the project, this is what i dont understand

give me 21 year old Favors over Zbo at any age, also ill take Al over Zbo any day of the week, i think the Griz would too

Z Bo is better now. Favors is a project. Randolph still has better averages and a better PER, even in a down year for him. Favors will get a lot better, but all I am saying is he will be considered a very good player if he reaches Z Bo's peak from a few years ago. Next year is the year that Favors comes into his own, but he still will not be as good as Z Bo was 2 years ago. He will probably be better than current Z Bo, but that is a declining player who is getting old. In 2011-21, Randolph averaged over 20 and 12. If Favors does that, ever, I would be ecstatic.

Except that I expect Favors to be in the running for DPY several years running.

I don't think Favors shows a particular aptitude or natural talent for the low post but I really worry that the Jazz are going to get punished by small ball unless Favors can make the other team pay by going small. I don't think shooting jumpers, driving, or especially PnR would hurt the other team enough to make up for the advantages they get by going small. That angle is why I mention the post, and I'm not asking that he be Hakeem or Shaq, just that he be good enough and/or strong enough to punish the mismatch.
