So I heard Lowe talking on 1320.

Said that Burke adjusted from first game to second. And then adjusted again after half-time in today's game. I think that is a good sign.

Lowe said Burke has great court awarness and is really good at changing speeds---Like Stockton. Another good sign.

Lowe said in game 1 Burke could get past his man in the PnR (thats good) but was being challenged at the rim. Today he pulled up to use his midrange jumper instead.

Lowe acknowledged that Trey was picking up his dribble too soon or too often, said that it was something he could improve on. (I recall Deron doing the same thing--two steps past half-court and he'd pick it up and stare).

As for the others, I expect Olynk, Pressy, Canaan (if he gets healthy) McCollum, Jackson, and other Jr or Sr players from college to be better adjusted in a summer league game. Jazz weren't drafting for Summer League wins.

We are all going to support everyone we get until they prove us not too, or atleast everyone should be like that.

We could have drafted Dieng at #9 and we would have found a way to like him.

Just is the way it is, some people were doubting Burke because of his size and lack of athleticism, but once we drafted him we support the heck out of him.

Burke got everybody's attention with the way he played during the tourney, as did Gordon Hayward.

I will be honest and say that I didn't see Trey Burke play at all this year until the night of the draft. In watching the two summer league games so far I've been a bit underwhelmed with his play, but it's summer league and doesn't mean anything. The things I did notice that I felt was really encouraging is that he adapts quickly, which leads me to believe he is extremely coachable. He also doesn't seem to get down on himself when he isn't shooting well. I like that he has confidence in his shot even when it isn't falling. Anyone who is really judging Trey Burke right now needs to calm down and wait for the season. I am sure he's going to be a fine player.

I am sure almost everyone here saw the Summer League Game today. Burke was decent, improved a lot from the first game, but he is still pretty nervous as you can tell.

In six games vs. OKC in the playoffs this year (5 of which he started in) Beverley averaged 11.8 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 2.8 APG, 1 TOPG and shot 43% from the field in 33 MPG.

To compare both players in the Summer League game today let's see what their stats were today:

Trey Burke, 11 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, 4 turnovers, on 33% from the field.

Patrick Beverley 11 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 turnovers on 50% from the field.

Obviously Beverley has a season under his belt and started in five playoff games last season. If he performed so well in the playoffs and was sub-par today, why does everybody think Burke is going to suck just because of a few unimpressive games?

Trey Burke will be fine and will win Rookie of the Year, book it.

Beverly is also 4.5 years older than Burke. Although it seems a bit illogical how you took a game where Burke shot significant 17% less from the floor than Beverly and based on that concluded he will be ROY. Beverly was not sub-par today, while Burke was. Agree that it is not an indication Burke sucks - he is adjusting, but certainly not something to be used to show he will be ROY. His NCAA career is much better suited for that purpose, but not the summer League game where he shot 33% from the floor vs 50% by the opposing PG.

The thing that i have liked the most about Burke is the fact that almost every time the shot clock was going down he made a play. Yes he missed some shots and yes guys misses or dropped some passes. But he finds a way to get us a good shot at the basket at the end of the clock almost every time. He played better today than yesterday and I think he plays better tomorrow. I agree with Lowe that he is adjusting.

If you could do our draft again, would you still take him first?

fishonjazz again:
"He just looks small out there.... not that you can't be good if you are small but usually you have to have some other special ability to make up for the lack of size.
Cp3 has amazing quickness (especially stopping and starting)
Nate robinson has amazing leaping ability (and great quickness)
Jameer nelson is super strong.

Does burk possess something like that to help overcome that lack of size."

I would like to see where I bash burke or say he sucks or is going to suck.

I said he had a bad game and he looked small and slow when I was watching the game..... never did I bash him or say he sucked.

Some people can't handle the truth

One other thing about this post... at the end I asked if burke has something about him to overcome his lack of size.
Pkm answered with something like "toughness, leadership, bball IQ" and I responded to pkm with "good answer". Someone else mentioned his craftiness.

See I only saw him play in like 3 games in college so I really don't know all that much about him and then I watch his first nba action and quite frankly he did suck.... but I'm not going to think he will continue to suck just because of one game but what do you expect me to do? Watch his first game and be like Wow he was amazing! That 1 for 12 shooting was awesome! I hope he plays this great every night!

Sorry but I saw a crappy game and said so.... doesn't mean I don't like burke or think he sucks or anything.

I haven't read this thread...

But I gotta say Beverly is a great player. Someone I thought should have been doing a lot since his draft.....

But.. beverley is way older than burke with a hella more experience...

In a not so way of saying what I'm trying to say..... nancies gonna be nancies...

I didn't read this post.

I must have accidentaly quoted it, it does that sometimes, site error or something.... anyways...if we could re-do this draft, I would take Beverly instead of Burke.

I stand by my post... at the time of my posting the 'dude had no energy'. Just an observation, doesn't mean I think he sucks by any means.

Yea some of the post were just commenting on his performance in one game and were not condemning Burke to being a D-League career. I thought Burke played better in the second game. He made adjustments but again he missed a lot of easy shots.

Besides the fact that he is playing on a horrible summer league team. Lindsey was too busy with getting the GS deal done because he pretty much failed in bringing in any quality guys for the summer league. Burke only had 2 assists but if he were playing with guys who could make shots, he would have had at least 7-8 assists. A couple of the turnovers were just flat out drops by his teammates.

Burke is going to be fine. I think he is going to be a very good player but it might take awhile. There is one thing I don't worry about is that Burke will give it his all to be the best he can be. However, he is playing in a man's league now and he will have nights where he will struggle. People need to remember that even the great John Stockton had bad games. Yes it is true.

What I am looking at with Burke his first year is how does he handle his mistakes, is he learning the offense and is he getting guys the ball where they can be successful. His shot will be fine and I already like his defensive effort. A-Train has a point with some of the criticize on this board, some people just like to complain or find fault for any reason. I know the expectations for Burke are over the top so the disappointment will be greater if he isn't who we think he is but patience is needed.

In the 2nd half of the 2nd game, he was passing the ball pretty well... like you said guys either dropped the ball, fumbled, or just flat out missed a dunk!!! The game would have been much closer if our guys had made those shots.

He seems to me like a pretty instinctive passer as well.... He's already passing it much better than Hayward, Burks & Mo Williams, combined. That's gotta be a good sign.

the game starts and beverley steals his dribble 40 feet from the basket, Priceless summerleague moment. i knew the jazz had found the next CP3

how about Casper Ware(whos like 5'8") vs Trey Burke??

Ware, 17mins 2/5fg's, 6/7ft's, 3reb's, 2ast's, 3stl''s, 0to's
Burke 25mins, 5/15fg's, 0/0ft's, 2reb's, 2ast's, 0stl's, 4to's
