What's new

Can we just release Burke and Hayward?

Start Burks. Adjust Hay and Trey's role ASAP.

Hay needs to be our SF... just look at the draft class and free agent class.

Draft Gary Harris for the bench role SG role.

So we should triple his salary and at the same time reduce his role... that is your plan?

You don't let talent leave for nothing, you have to match. He's gonna get a 10 mil a year offer from someone, it's pretty much a guarantee.

10 mil ain't that bad for a 3rd option with intangibles

What about our first and second options, will they be getting paid more than 10-12 mil? Don't forget we already locked in Favors, and he would be no better than option 4 in this scenario... which scenario ain't never happening, BTW.

Good point
if our 3rd and 4th options are both getting over 12 million per year then are we only gonna pay our 1st and 2nd options like 7 million or something?

My god this!
Should have happened in game 1.

Hayward is good, he just needs to act more like a shooter than a scorer. Make plays for others, play some defense and take open catch and shoot jumpers. Basically a facilitating version of Marvin Williams.

Great post
would rep but i have exceeded my limit

Well I guess the ultimate hope is that our 1st option would be payed around 5-6 million for the next four years (I think that is top-3 pick rookie payment?), that in which would set to expire around the same time Hayward's new contract would be set to expire also.

Contracts are based on more than your level of importance in scoring within the offense.

Oh i see, you think we are getting a top 3 pick.
ok then

What if we aquire our #1 option through free agency or a trade? I think a player aquired in that manner would need to get paid a decent salary

Problem is we have not seen what these guys did in a structered offense.
hayward could not carry the load in hayfense.
he seemed better in alfense.
just like marvin williams sucked in alfense.

i just wanna see what these players are capable of and this is/was the season to experiment

If we do it in a trade that probably means Hayward is involved in that trade.

If we do it in FA.......... wait, stop, this is Utah, not happening. At least, not a playoff caliber #1 option.

Another reason why I don't get the hesitancy to go with Hayward. Who else are we spending money on? This is Utah, we have to overpay to get decent FA's. We have a really good one here right now.

If we ha a chance at a top 5 FA in the market, I would get not signing Hayward.

Face reality, we don't. We have to go all in with what we have, hope for a good draft, hope to sign some decent role player FA, and hope to get a coach who implement a good offensive and defensive system.

For Utah to win we have to be an exception to the rule. It has always been that way.

Marvin didn't suck in "Alfense". Marvin sucked as a SF who was defended on the perimeter. Stretch 4's work because most big men don't want to be stuck on the 3pt line contesting shots.

Agreed that our offense needs to do a better job getting easy buckets. None of that is Hayward's fault though. He actually does the best job of creating offense for others on the team.

Good post, but i have heard that the new cba has such stiff penalties that alot of the teams that would normally snatch up the good free agents now will not be able to.

Dont know how its gonna work yet but thats just what im hearing, so maybe utah will be able to land a better free agent than normal next summer and retain burks and kanter........ but not if we overpay hayward.

Another reason why The Jazz should be tanking - the inevitable sting of over-paying Hayward would be lessened greatly if they were able to acquire an impact player in the draft.

The Jazz coaches have seemed to accept the fact that Burke has hit the rookie wall. But the rookie wall is much more mental than it is physical. Burke needs to push back. He needs to get in the paint at least a dozen times a game (when was the last time the kid took a frickin' free throw). Push the ball whenever possible and stop settling for jump shots.

To say defenses have made an adjustment is only half true. Burke has stopped doing the things that made him successful earlier in the season.

he sucked being a 5th option in a 1 option offense

Agree. And that's one reason KOC and Lindsey have been so determined to completely clear the books of long-term contracts. Not having long-term contracts meant DL could go the direction he did this summer when asset accumulation was more important than overspending for the players who were FA's.

Stars are always going to get paid. But the new CBA is going to squeeze the next tier of players (good example is Paul Millsap). Fewer teams are going to be willing to exceed the tax limit, especially if it puts them in the classification of "repeat offender." There should be some pretty good players available every year. If a team like Utah has cap space, they can step in and outbid most others and still not "overpay" for that player. We did all right the last time Utah had a ton of cap space and brought in Boozer and Okur as FA's.

That's why I believe Lindsey shoud turn over every rock and consider letting Hayward walk...IF there is a better FA out there and IF a team steps up and offers a ton of money for Gordon. SF is the EASIEST position to replace in the NBA. And at SG, there is a star sitting on the bench who can move into the lineup.
