The Official Trey Burke Evaluation Thread

I really like how Gobert doesn't bite on every shot fake like a certain someone (ahem...McGee). He knows just putting his arms up will radically effect most the shots. I'm sure thats what KOC and Lindsey saw in him as well.

I like how he is very very mobile for a big man of his size.

The way Burke & Gobert could connect reminds me a bit about Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler 5-6 years ago.. do you guys remember that?????????????

Even if Gobert bit on the fake, his arms would extend out to the other player's 2nd option.

Finally got to see the summer league game on dvr...

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but...Trey Burke really reminds me of Derick Fisher. Small, strong, not very quick, can't finish at the rim....

As long as he doesn't lie to us, I'm ok with that.

OK Guys... Guys!! Thanks to Prodigy, we have Trey Burke's highlights of the first game:

Thanks for the share, i cant see the games, so this is really helpful

What i see from highlights is Trey burke has talent and he has good control over the ball, its just that he is a bit weak making the last move, either assist or finish under the rim. He has to learn how to finish stuff strong. He has a lot to improve, but i see a very good fit for our future. And everyone calm down, if this guy was gonna be a Chris paul or deron williams, someone else could pick him before us, and second, we wouldnt afford after next 2-3 years with all other young guys we have.

Smfh at idiot fans calling Burke a bust like 6 games into the 2nd year of his NBA career.

****ing embarrassing. Is he shooting awful right now? Yes! Is he one of 2 players who can consistently run an offense and set other players up? Yes! Is there a chance that he will continue to improve as a player? yes!

So ****ing cool it down. Holy man.

Give thine faith to TreyHova, and he shall reward thee

Thats his second year, but he is the same age Kanter is. We alle know that Trey is a better BB Player than this, but he is not earning his minutes on the court right now. Their is almost nothing he is doing well and he is lucky that he has no competition besides Exum and D-league Player Clark. Quin still has to cut some of his minutes right now and give him a lesser role.

At some point, Trey has to be thought of as a "sunk cost." Dennis Lindsey, desperately needing a PG, took a chance by trading up for Trey, who we thought at the time was a true "pass-first" PG and not a scorer or combo guard like MCW or McCollum. In reality, all three have disappointed. Even Carter-Williams was supposedly on the trading block right after winning ROY. If you read articles from the draft, the Jazz reportedly wanted a big, but had heard the one they targeted would be off the board by 14. So they traded up and took who they thought was BPA AND filled a position of need. They screwed up. It happens.

No team hits on all their picks. It was a weak draft. Congrats to Milwaukee for taking a chance on a very raw player in Giannis. I think they win the draft by getting him at #15. Ironically, the pick the Jazz included to move up was used on Dieng, who is turning into a quality backup. Jazz paid a steep price for Burke. Fortunately, they were able to partially offset their huge mistake by buying a pick (Gobert) and getting extra picks from GS for this past draft and beyond. So they drafted their PGOTF one year later and picked up a solid wing in Hood. Gobert may or may not become a solid backup like Dieng. Imagine this team with Giannis, Dieng and a FA PG. Would have been >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> better than the garbage we've seen from Burke in 78 games.

Do we have other options right now, today? No. Jazz had their head up their arses by going to battle with only 2 PG's on the roster, including one who had stunk up 2 SL's and 70 games as a rookie with his poor shooting and porous defense. I'm no statistics major, but I'm pretty sure you could have viewed the 2014 preseason, when some teams barely go through the motions, as an outlier.

Trey is a bust; he has 2nd round value as the #9 pick. He'll never grow another inch; he won't be appreciably faster. He's not going to be a defensive stopper. At best, he's a player like Earl Watson: destined to bounce around the league as a backup. The sooner Lindsey realizes this and brings in the A.J. Price's of the world to help this team, the better.

Does having Trey as the starter hurt the team? Damn right it does! No one fears Trey's shots. This is liking watching Tinsley and Watson all over again. Teams are just playing off, defending the pass into the post and giving up the outside shot to Burke. That's one reason our inside game has gone to hell.

If only Lindsey knew that signing a 3rd string PG off the streets would catapult this team to the playoffs. What a moron Lindsey is.

If only DL would see after a disappointing season last year, a terrible SL and a abysmal start to this year (in which Trey has reached 40% in only ONE game) that he MIGHT, just MIGHT want to have a 3rd PG on the roster. You know, given that Utah's only other option coming into the year was a completely unproven and by all accounts a very, very raw prospect in Exum, a player experts were all calling a "project." It's not like the Jazz are up against the luxury tax.

I never said as good as or anything.. I said similar type game.

Regardless.

This.

Wow. I was that high on Burke when we drafted him... I remember how excited the Jazz FO was about Trey when they introduced him.

He looked quicker and craftier in college, where he was especially good in the open floor. It just hasn't translated at the next level. I guess you'd have to say Shane Larkin, Nate Wolters and Dennis Schroeder haven't set the world on fire, as back-ups even. These were guys we were comparing Trey to. Of course, the jury is still out on Schroeder.

Just not a great draft class. No one's really tearing it up. And good PGs have been hard to come by for several years.

Trey still brings the ball up and gets us into our sets. He's looking for his own shot too much for sure. He's defending a little bit I guess.

I can also remember a time when we were giving serious air time to Kendall Marshall and Marquis Teague. Both are out of the league, I think.
