What's new

The official countdown til Dragic thread.

What happens to Exum?

This, I'm not giving up on a 19 year old kid that shows tremendous speed and a fairly good shot. The handles and agresiveness will come by no doubt... He's got the work ethic. That's just freak with his forever drafting a high pick policy.

What happens to Exum?

I'm a firm believer in drafting BPA and then crossing that bridge when you come to it. I think Exum is 2 or 3 years away, but in the meantime we can find minutes for him between the 1/2. Either way, you have 2 valuable assets that can be traded if push comes to shove, but I don't see it becoming an issue for a year or two at the soonest. Show Treyd the door if need be.

Lol at you not giving up on stuff.

Prolly better than your give up on the rebuild after one year and trade Hayward for a draft pick policy, tbh.

This won't happen and I hope it doesn't. Dragic already said he plans to opt out after this year to become an unrestricted free agent. He also said he will quicky re-sign with the Suns (though who knows how true that is).

Either way, I don't want to trade anybody for a half season rental of Dragic. I think the Milwaukee Bucks traded Tobias Harris for half a season of JJ Redick, and I'm sure they regret that.

This, no reason to trade for Dragic. A half season rental and a worse draft pick is all we would get. If we want him try to go after him in FA but he is going to a contender or back with the Suns IMO.

Now this is a good counter-argument, and makes sense. But Trey would totally be the odd man out.

Lol like we could draft Mudiay. The only way that happens is if we jump into the top 3.

Mudiay could easily drop. He isn't playing basketball. His stock can't get much higher and people may decided they like players they have more info on.

Nah I don't see him dropping at all, not out of the top 5. I would love to get him though.

As long as exum continues shooting better than expected on spot up jumpers, there is no reason he and mudiay cannot coexist. They would be a dynamic, modern NBA backcourt. It would be amazing. They both have elite size and defensive potential. No question about drafting any of mudiay, towns, or on a for, and maybe even porzingis if they are available when we pick. Like freak said, you pick the talent and worry about fit later.

Do you know what the most stupid thing Phoenix could do at this moment? Helping someone like us making sure we`ll finish higher than the Lakers in the standings. Phoenix are getting the Lakers pick if it is outside of the top 5. Handing us Dragic would make us much better and the chances that we finish below LA would be very low. Not only would Phoenix be giving up their best player, they would also make it less likely that they`ll get the Lakers pick.

Good point

I don't get ROOT with the awful cable package at the U. So I've hardly seen the Jazz at all this year. Is Exum already a bust? Between him, Burke (who I thought had been playing better tbh.) and a healthy Burks are we still so bad at guard that we need to trade a bunch of dudes and max out a fringe all star?

I asking in all honesty, I know almost nothing about the team.

I wouldn't call Exum a bust by any means, he's just a 19 year old rookie who's barely played competitive basketball. Once he tests the waters driving to the basket and realizes that he doesn't die he will vastly improve his game imo.

Burke has been improving but still is not very good.
Exum looks like crap, but it's to early to call him a bust..... we have to hope for ALOT of improvement.
Burks at this point in his career is an average player. (Hopefully he makes a jump in his 5th year like favors and Hayward did..... and hopefully being healthy will help, assuming he is healthy next year)

Definitely not an ideal situation but it could be worse

Eh. It's a tank year through development and everybody still needs tons of work. I'm pretty happy with the job Quin is doing. What I'd like to see now is for the team to really focus on the development of Kanter, Burke and Exum for the rest of this season. Starting lineup of Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Exum and Burke. Bring Kanter in off the bench (and have him play primarily with Rudy) and bring Jingles in for Burke when you want Dante to slide over to PG. Sprinkle in Booker, Evans and Millsap and shut Hood down for the rest of the season to focus on his health. His contribution is more important for next year.

Keep an open mind as far as trades are concerned, but really see what you have with your Core players (Gobert, Favors, Hayward and Exum) while trying to raise the trade value of Kanter and Burke in the process. If you decide to keep them, fine. . . but if a deal for a potential franchise player comes about, be ready and willing to pull the trigger with all those assets you've been collecting. I wouldn't trade Kanter and/or Burke for peanuts, but would gladly see them go after a young All Star or potential All Star if an opportunity arises.

I don't see any of these strategies messing with the tank, but it might give them a better idea of where they are and what steps need to be taken next.

Good post
I agree with all of it
