Potential Trade Targets

I do wonder if there is a 3-team trade possibility with the Jazz/Hawks/Knicks.

Dejounte to Utah

Clarkson to New York

Fournier + 2 firsts + prospect to Atlanta

One first from us and one from the Knicks. The prospect could be Grimes or maybe we take Grimes and send Ochai to the Hawks.

I don’t think NY puts a pick in and if they do they will likely take Murray for themselves by paying the full price.

I think the reason Grimes is out there is so the Knicks can get help they want, manage the cap asset of Fournier’s deal, and preserve the picks for a star trade. I think there is a three team deal to be had here but we’d be putting in all the firsts.

Knicks reportedly turned down Quickley + a first for Dejounte already.

I would love to move THT and KO as expirings for assets. It'd be sweet if we could move both to one team to get some draft assets for helping a team unload an overpaid player. Use the open roster spot to sign someone waived at the deadline.

We need to improve but I don't see a glaring weakness on this team - we're simply a young team that needs playoff experience.

I don't know. That first quarter last night was really ugly.

I think IQ is way more valuable than Grimes though. As evidenced by the fact that he and the 31st pick got OG. RJ can be viewed as either positive or negative based on his contract so IQ was by far the most valuable asset in that deal imo.

I think we could still do a Murray deal... but we'd be putting in the pick(s)... that's all. I think the Nets should be doing the Murray deal or breaking up some of their team (maybe keep enough to intrigue Donny). They could even take Capela and it might be okay cuz Claxton may not come back.

Our passing has been so much better lately by committee. Each player has seemed to improve their passing. I'm starting to feel more comfortable letting KO go if we had a good offer for him.
Agree. I think Sexton deferring to Dunn to start the offense and Dunn really just moving the ball quickly after bringing it up is helpful. Sounded like there was too much push and pull with THT and Sexton and that stuff is contagious.

One thing is Lauri seems to be doing more or better out of the mid post. Made a quick pass on a double to the corner last night that got me excited.

You’re usually the one adding an extra pick in… I don’t know what to say now that the roles are reversed lol.

Yeah that Lauri play was a key trigger for me in wondering if we really need KO.

lol... i try and trend to what I think would get accepted and taking back a little less in trades to avoid the homer trade label. I also will give "my price for us" type of deals too that are homer centered in part because I don't like the player or think his market price will be higher than what I would pay for where we are.

I think Grimes is worth a late first and that having the cap flexibility next year will yield some value. The FA list ain't great though.

So watched some of the Knicks game with Fournier and Grimes while I was at work yesterday and didn't put my thoughts out there. Its fairly obvious why Grimes is unhappy with is role/use. When Randle and Brunson are in you hang out in the corner and watch them cook. When they had the bench unit in it was McBride and OG trying to drive and create and not much going on. Its not ideal for a player like him. I really think with how we move the ball he can get more out of the DHO flare screen stuff than Ochai and Tech. I think he can also do a little more with the ball if we let him explore the room a bit. Even if he is just redundant to Tech I think having a couple guys like that on bargain deals allows you to do some other stuff.

JC's scoring will absolutely be missed but hopefully Key can grow a bit more with some opportunity. If he struggles that might be something that really hurts us this season though.

Lauri has shown some stuff the last stretch that has me excited. He's had some bad moments trying stuff but he's trying the right stuff. Just letting him cook on the perimeter isn't what I want but the mid/high post stuff and the moves in the open court have been good.

I'd just stick with Ochai over Grimes. You arent getting some kind of prize with Grimes.

Better defender, has an extra year of rookie contract (biggest factor currently), rave reviews as far as personality/leadership/low maintenance. If he ever puts his stuff together he's got more potential than Grimes due to the athleticism and ability to finish above the rim.
Isn't this more or less the same choice Bill Self made? (Someone who follows Kansas BB better than I do, please correct me if I'm wrong).

I think I’m slightly biased against Grimes because my predraft read on him was that he was very limited outside of being a jump shooter. Couldn’t score inside the arc, didn’t create his shot well, make plays off the dribble etc. Basically he could only make it if he was a really good shooter, and if he was you’d get a lower ceiling end product.

To his credit, he is a great shooter and that’s why he’ll be a valuable player in this league. If all it costs is JC I’m fine with it…but I don’t see a lot of potential in his game beyond what he’s doing now. Could we potentially unlock him more? I guess so….but I actually think he benefits from playing with Randle and Brunson. I’m not sure he’s capable of doing more stuff.

Also, Tbf I need to take a closer look at his defense.

I prefer Moody who is younger and much more dynamic IMO, but I’m not sure there is a deal there to be made. I’m not sure how far the Knicks have come down on Grimes, but if there still looking at him as a high value asset idk if I’d do it. He can’t be a “superstar package” centerpiece, like he was.
