What's new

2011 draft.....

1) Millsap is not taller than Derrick Williams, regardless of what his current measurements say.

2) Millsap is not the explosive offensive talent that Williams is.

3) If Derrick Williams is available at #3, the Jazz should draft him. There is not a better wing player in this draft.

Have a nice day.

Never said Millsap was taller... I think I stated that Williams was more athletic, but regardless they play the same position and are similar in that they can both shoot and play the same position, undersized pf's that play the perimeter. Williams is as much a wing as Millsap is.

We have Millsap! At one time I was high on him, when that wore off I realized he is Millsap all over mabey a little more athletic and a little taller he's a pf we have plenty of thoughs. He's not a sure thing. There aren't any of thoughs this year.

We don't need two Millsaps.

Even though I am also not very high on Williams, you're forgetting a very important draft rule. Never draft based off need in the lottery, draft the best player available. Period.

I don't think he is saying don't draft him because we have Millsap. He is saying Millsap is a bench player and Dwill is Millsap. You don't draft a bench player with the third pick.

Just because Millsap and Derrick Williams are about the same height - it doesn't mean they're the same player. I could give you 3 paragraphs on the differences between the two, but in short - if the Jazz end up in a position to draft Williams, it should be a no-brainer.

Greg Miller on ABC 4

Mr. Miller was on with Wes Ruff last night. I didn't see the entire interview, but here it is.

Speaking about the draft Mr. Miller said that they Jazz Management would sit down next week to review the findings of O'Connor & company and then making thier draft decisions. Interesting they get together with the Millers so early, even before the workouts are completed.

Yes I'm sure they have different games I don't believe for a second that Williams can on the wing full time effectively.

What I mean by when I said "drafting Williams is like drafting another Millsap" they are both undersized pf's that play on the perimeter. I don't think Williams would start over Favors or Al. Millsap has one of the best contracts in the NBA.

Paul Millsap - 2006 6' 6.25" 6' 7.25" 8' 9.5"

Williams is 6'9" in shoes and has a 9' standing reach. As much as I love Sap, he is always shorter than any starting PF in the league.

I'm leaning towards taking Kanter and if he's not there I'd probably go with Valanciunas (hopefully trading down a spot or 2 to get him). I'm confident there's a true 3 to be had in the 2012 draft.

Lol @ people saying we should pass on Dwill3 if he drops.

A week ago people are praying he falls to us, and now some of you are saying "meh I'll pass".

There are fantastic SF's in next years draft. Barnes, Miller, Thomas, Gilchrist .. just to name a few.

The thought of drafting Williams tears me up for a number of reasons. One of them being that if he's there at #3, you HAVE to draft him. You just have to. If you're not in love with him, then at worst, you find someone who is.

This is what alot of Jazz fans are missing when they compare Millsap and Williams. Derrick Williams is not this undersized PF who mirrors everything Millsap does. Not only is he younger, more explosive and a better finisher around the rim, but he has a bigger wingspan and standing reach than Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, Tyler Hansbrough, Al Horford, Udonis Haslem, Drew Gooden, Troy Murphy David Lee, and Josh Smith.
So let's say his transition to SF takes longer than expected or he just doesn't make it as an NBA-SF - fine, he still has the potential to be an above-average NBA PF and that makes him a pretty safe pick IMO.
