2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

I meant, imagine if the Jazz gave up Rubio, Favors, and 2 first round picks, only to have Conley start to physically decline due to age, and Mirotic deciding to sign elsewhere.

I think there is a real possibility the Jazz does this if Memphis accepts the Jazz' offer.
I don't think they'll trade a first for Mirotic. Not for a rental. They may pursue him in the off season though. That I'm fine with.

He's staying. Immediately after the trade Philly said that they plan on keeping Harris and Butler longterm. They are all in on a core of Embiid/Simmons/Butler/Harris.

We aren't getting Harris
Saying it and being able to do it are 2 different things.

I'd be curious to know why Toronto would be shopping Lowry. Do they want to give his minutes to younger guys, are they trying to dump his contract, or are they trying to get a better player back than him? If we could trade Rubio+Favors and not give up any picks to get Lowry+Stretch 4, I think that'd be interesting.

He's an unrestricted free agent. I'm sure Philly did that move with the intention of retaining him, but he is yet to be retained and I think the environment there sounds ******, to be frank.

Then what will they do if they use Favors to match Conley's salary? We're thin at that position, and they're definitely planning to bring some else in.

The draft only gives the team control of the player for 7 years, at which point they're in their prime and ready to go to a big market on the coast.
7 years is about 5 years more than the best you can get in a trade or 7 more than you can get in free agency.

The Jazz HAVE to make a trade. Either a trade that is an effort to improve the team now (like Conley) or a trade that brings in an asset in exchange for taking a contract.

Standing pat is the worst possible outcome. I don't see a single player we could possibly hope to add in 2019 free agency that would be a gamechanger.

Standing pat basically means that we re-sign Rubio and Favors and bring back the same team next year with no improvement.

Lowry is definitely a lateral move - like most of all players discussed here. Any player that’s not a star is a lateral move. They may make us somewhat better, but they won’t put us over the top.
For what it's worth, Toronto fans speak super highly of his impact, even in an off year. Like a lot of people think he's a bigger impact than Kawhi.

And the 76 getting Harris is just the icing on the cake. Unbelievable. And Dallas getting Porzingis? What the **** are we doing?? How is DL not able to get a third star next to Rudy and DM? The time is now.

Exum (and a 2nd) for Mirotic.

Or whatever, frankly. There aren't a lot of lumbering 4s in the league that will win a matchup so handily against the Jazz that it is a net-positive. That isn't to say that the Jazz's situation at the 4 couldn't be a lot better than filling the position by committee (Jae, Royce, Joe, Thabo).

However... the Jazz will be cap-strapped if they get Conley, so having Mirotic's Bird Rights at that point would then become pivotal. Hmm.

I WOULD NOT SAY SUCH THINGS IF I WERE YOU

To which Buttercup replies: Why not? You can't hurt me. Westley and I are joined by the bonds of love, and you cannot track that; not with a thousand bloodhounds. And you cannot break it, not with a thousand swords. And when I say you're a coward, it is only because you are the slimiest weakling ever to crawl the Earth.

The Sixers dumped basically their entire asset-hoard for a guy that could just walk at the end of the year. And that asset-hoard is at least twice the size of the maximum that the Jazz could or should have offered.
