2025 Off-Season Trade Ideas Thread

Why? Dame is essentially dead money until he proves otherwise. If this contract buys them a year or two with Giannis then the rebuild can be affected by an additional year. Make it a super swap or top 4 protected that turns into 2 seconds maybe.
It just feels like too much consolidated value heading to Utah. Boston probably needs a first (from Utah) to make the deal go through

This is why we need The Wheel tbh. I just wish we knew the approximate value of every pick traded instead of these wild futures bets where you are shorting a teams future stock

Plus, is Boston going to want to strengthen a conference opponent while getting worse themselves? I just don't see it unless they something to go with Sexton.

I don’t think so. Even if you think so the salary savings alone makes up for it to me.
They will legit have like a $200M luxury tax bill that this may cut in half. Boston will be dumping money and there aren't a lot of easy ways to do it.

The Bucks are giving the pick. Boston needs to get off of Holiday's salary... he is a better player but that contract is not great. If you think someone is going to give them savings and a pick and a replacement player... well then go on ahead and tell me the deal.

You don't think Jazz would give up Collins/Sexton for a contract+ unprotected '31 Bucks FRP? That's really what we are talking about...not Dame. That pick is the exact kind of asset they should go after and the type of shrewd acquisition Presti was making during their rebuild. Not to mention would make it alot easier to "play hard" every game and not play tank games with veteran guys.
Is that pick worth 150 million dollars? You are handcuffing the Jazz not only next year but the next two years combined. I don't think I'm down sucking for three years for a pick six years from now.

Jrue is embarking on his age 35 season and is owed 3/105M. That is a neutral value contract imo... there are suckers out there though... looking right at Sacramento.

The correct number is $58M because our space this year means nothing (we don't have any) and Dame only has one year after this one at $58M. He likely will play and serve as a mentor for a year. Maybe he is completely washed... but FA has lost its teeth anyway... so you could use that contract as the trade ballast in a big deal. It doesn't do much to limit our ability to make moves. Outside of Austin Reaves... there aren't many unrestricted FAs next year anyway.

Three-way trade idea:

Jazz out: John Collins & Collin Sexton
Jazz in: Damian Lillard & MKE 2031 unprotected first

Celtics out: Jrue Holiday
Celtics in: Collin Sexton

Bucks out: Damian Lillard & MKE 2031 unprotected first
Bucks in: John Collins & Jrue Holiday

Boston saves 13.2M in salary. They would then need to only shed around 6.8M more to completely get under the second apron. They save this much money in one swoop and add a really talented guard in Sexton.

Milwaukee trades Lillard who is likely out for the year for Giannis’ old running mate Jrue and a very serviceable big to help them win games in Collins. Both of those players would immediately improve their roster greatly. The cost of doing business is their 2031 first.

Utah takes on Lillard’s salary and lets him rehab for the entire season. They essentially move off of Collins and Sexton for no production for a year to make the team worse and help the 2026 tank. They also get a very valuable pick asset for taking on so much salary while providing good players in return.

Quite literally a win-win-win trade all the way around for every team.
To follow up this deal they could likely trade Hauser into someone's MLE and be completely out of tax hell this year and in a great spot next year. Unfreezes picks and saves a couple hundred million for a new owner group.

They can save money through methods that don't involve making the Bucks better.
The Celtics don't have a chance next season after the Tatum injury. It's basically a gap year for them. Their main concern appears to be dumping as much money as possible and maybe reload again in 1-2 years when Tatum gets back. By that time Jrue will likely be totally washed. He was already looking a bit rough at the end of this last season.

Bucks would basically have a two year window to win with Giannis who can opt out in '27.

The Pacers made it to the Finals, they have a chance in the East

I stole this idea from RealGM:

To Miami: Sexton, Collins, #43, #53
To Jazz: Rozier, Robinson, #20

Robinson is on an expiring/partial guarantee for next season and Rozier will also be an expiring. I realize Ainge drafted Rozier but personally wouldn't let him set foot in the building while he's under federal investigation.
Interesting. I like it because this upcoming draft has a bunch of players in the #10-25 range who I think have a good shot at being great players.
