Central tank command : the official thread

Also got to imagine they will try to retain IT next year, even if Lebron leaves. I don't see Cleveland going into full tank mode. They will probably try to do a quick rebuild centered around IT and the Brooklyn pick.
We agree on a lot of things, but I don't see them doing that if LBJ leaves. Guess it also depends on the severity of IT's injury. But are they going to waste a ton of money on a player who will be 29 with questionable health? 30+ is when most players just naturally start to decline. Don't see his age matching up with the maturation of the BKN pick. If Lebron leaves, I could also see Cleveland trying to get assets for Love.

The Boston model is a great case study on how to build a team. They've drafted well and have their key players aligned very well in terms of ages. Horford is the only old guy at 31. I think a lot of teams are going to follow that model. The market for IT might be very small. Cleveland has so many old players they should have an assisted living center instead of a training facility.

Yes, they are Cleveland. They want to compete and sell tickets.

Boston model works because they can get big names to come play for them. Utah Jazz can't.

In December, we should trade Rubio and a 2nd rounder for Frye, Osman and a throw in like Calderon.

Maybe Cleveland will want another decent player for low cost to let Isaiah heal as much as possible. I would happy with the 2018/19 savings.

Why would Cleveland want Rubio? Lebron is essentially the best PG in the league, and when he's on the bench IT will soon be running the show.
Depends on IT's health. LBJ is playing 38 mins right now. His workload is way too much. Rubio would b e a decent PG for them as Ricky wouldn't need to score. He'd be taking the load off LBJ and dishing out assists to Love, LBJ, Crowder and Smith. Going from a co-#1 option in Utah (at least that's what it looks like - or how I perceive he feels), to a #5 option in Cleveland.

Just give the reigns to Mitchell and Neto. Clears the way for Exum to return next year and frees up cap space to go after shooters.

Rozier, Tatum and Brown were draft picks. Jazz got guys like Boozer and Okur in the past. I just don't buy the crap that Utah can't get FA's. Sure, we're not getting the likes of Lebron or Durant. But Jazz don't have to. They need to draft smart (DL has spent FIVE 1st round picks on PG's) and sign quality FA's. That's doable. Also, part of the "can't get" is DL (and KOC before that) saying, "too expensive." Millsap was gettable, but Jazz didn't want to spend the money. Other FA's have been attainable, but Lindsey wants to be a bargain shopper. So he signs the likes of Booker, Sefolosha, Udoh and Jerebko. Kudos on JJ, but Johnson apparently contacted the Jazz. I'm surprised DL doled out $11M. It didn't really fit his style.

My comment was more along the lines of Cleveland following that model. When LBJ left the first time, they went into a rebuild mode. I think they'll do that again. Utah is the team that has refused to rebuild, even when Lindsey said that was going to be his strategy. The only thing that meant was being cheap and ripping off the fans. He didn't put Utah in position to get a high draft pick for several years running. Exum...that was his sole "prize" picking in the lottery.

The Jazz may be too well coached to tank. The last time we tanked, we had no bench scoring whatsoever, and we had Ty Corbin coaching. I'm not seeing it. We may miss the playoffs, but I think we'd be drafting at our typical #12 again.

That said, I'm really curious to see if the Jazz will trade Favors. He's averaging 18 and 8 in his last 5 games with 64% shooting.

I agree.

Cleveland is the type franchise that will take any improvement player they can despite cost. Rubio is much better than Frye and unproven young guys who need more playing time. If Rose retires, Cavs will want any proven player who can help at all.
