What's new

Collin Sexton traded to Charlotte Hornets for Jusuf Nurkic

Don't include the pick at least. Sheesh.

I feel like AA could call up quite a few teams in the league and be like "we will give you a good young player and you give us a crappy old guy" and find some takers.
No need for the pick imo
Yeah, if we called up asking for a straight swap and they talked us into giving them a second we lost that negotiation.

It's makes 100% sense imo.

Sexton needed to be off the team to give the young guards more minutes/touches without having to **** with Sexton contract year.

Jazz needed a back up 5. Nurkic isn't good enough to drive winning, but he's an adult in the room and will help keep Walker tough.

Plus you gave Sexton to a team that challenged Utah in tanking. We made a tank competitor better.
Hope you’re right. If we keep Kessler and Nurkic gets a small role next year then it ultimately becomes a nbd trade that frees up more young player playtime which is the overall goal.

I will admit the inclusion of the pick is weird, but I imagine Charlotte knows what's going down. They are making the Jazz pay a tax for an organic tank that strengthens a tank competitor.

I'm just not crying over a 2nd rounder when the positive of moving on from these placeholder vets (who deserve a chance to play unrestricted for their next contract) is much greater

I don't think sexton is truly negative, but I'd guess we were only interested in taking back expiring deals to preserve cap for whatever reason.

Additionally, he needed to be moved. We couldn't go into the season sitting him, and young guys have to play.

I'd guess we could have taken on worse money and gotten a very marginal asset. Extremely pleased we're clearing the deck of guys who aren't in the long term plan.
As numberica mentioned, could have just cleared the deck by buying out sexton and keep the pick.
If you really want a back up center get yourt7 or eubanks or whoever the **** off the garbage pile.

This makes sense, and it’s encouraging bc it suggests AA is more focused on big picture considerations than transaction-specific details. This is a macro-economic view over micro.

Haha some wild overreaction to this in this thread. At worst it’s what is being reported. It’s not franchise altering.

Yall watch too much Island couple swap reality TV.
Don't think anyone thinks it's franchise altering (other than Cy)
It's simply nonsensical and strange. Nonsensical strange things get discussed I guess.

Some players don't like having to do buyouts because of the stigma attached.

My honest first thought was, this has to mean another trade and likely the LAL will be coming.

Second thought was atleast we got a 2nd, then realized we gave the 2nd and made even less sense.

3rd thought was, you don't let something like a 2nd round keep you from executing whatever plan you have

4th was, Nurkic I guess could be someone Kessler could learn and practice offensively from. IF there's not another trade to move Nurkic.

The Charlotte FO isn't some galaxy brain central. The Hornets are a terrible organization that is constantly making bad/inexplicable moves.

Sexton should fit right in their dysfunctional roster. They needed more defense for their backcourt and naturally traded for a dude who doesn't play any.
