Collin Sexton traded to Charlotte Hornets for Jusuf Nurkic

Sexton just wasn't a good fit. I think he can good for the right team, but we need higher IQ connectors around our young players. Not to poopoo him that he was bad, just not the kind of player we need for the team around Ace right now.

Jerome is that guy

Well, there are 2 sides to this. Are we trying to be as bad as can be? Or are we trying to improve through getting Jerome? I can understand liking Jerome as a player more than Sexton. The advanced stats really like Jerome from what I remember. We could probably sign him for the non-taxpayer mle which is 14.1 million/year and promise him a starting role.

Charlotte was also reported as a Ty Jerome suitor, so moving Sexton there probably removes/reduces competition if the Jazz have Jerome as a priority move.

We are setting up proper infrastructure around our potential star we just drafted to ensure he succeeds

I would be disappointed if we get the same kind of trade for Collins. I think he should have actual value due to his shooting improvements.
Meh, can't you rationalize it the exact same way? "it had to be done.. you clear the path for Hendricks, yada-yada, you strengthen direct competitor for high picks... yada-yada... it's just a second or two we are giving up, etc...

Don't include the pick at least. Sheesh.

I feel like AA could call up quite a few teams in the league and be like "we will give you a good young player and you give us a crappy old guy" and find some takers.
No need for the pick imo
On can reasonably conclude the the Jazz FO aren’t complete idiots. They’ve been trying to move Sexton for a while. Thus, it’s reasonable to conclude that this was the market for a player like Sexton on a team like the Jazz where everybody knows they practically have to get rid of Sexton. So, sure, it really isn’t a good deal. It’s also not as bad as people are making it look, and I doubt Utah could have done better or they would have.

Setting up a foundation for Ace and WCJ? That does make sense in terms of setting them up for success. Ty Jerome would be cheaper than any Sexton extension and would be more of a connector type who can play within himself. Let us hope Ty Jerome is actually the plan.
