What's new

Dennis Lindsey: We will be VERY active in free agency

Keon Clark and Ben Handlogten turned into Kirk Snyder and Gordon Hayward.
Jeff Malone turned into Jeff Hornacek
Spencer Haywood turned into Adrian Dantley
DeShawn Stevenson for Gordon Giricek
Gordon Giricek for Kyle Korver
Ronnie Brewer for draft pick used to get Al Jefferson.

Handlogten was gonna be a star doe

If we are able to work out a trade for Rudy Gay it would probably be a one year deal.

2016/17 season Rudy makes $13.3M
2017/18 season Rudy has a player option at $14.2M

Jazz have short-term money and likely winning situation to offer. But that's clearly not enough for many players.

Have much harder time with long-term contracts and assurance of lots of playing time. Not hard to see why the Dudley/Hill level of players (fringe starters, but clear backups for Jazz) might choose somewhere else.

Half of those players barely had a pulse and were traded for value.

Not one of those trades involved a high priced Utah Jazz player. They all involved role players for role players. None of them overpaid. They aren't the same.

you get the same money in 2 years with the Jazz as opposed to 3 with the Suns. If the rumored Jazz deal was on the table, I suspect he would have gotten more from the Suns.

DL about to do what DL does....nothing. He is joke of man. Throw him to walkers and bring in real GM! MILLERS!!!!!!!!

What do people want here ??? We are talking about Dudley , he is close to being useless in terms of what he can provide for us, the money he got is a joke , good luck to him.

I sure as hell don't want him taking any time away from Burks/Hayward/lyles/Hood

We have a very young group that need time to grow.

Joe Johnson

Jazz haven't really done the High priced role player thing. Only a few times have the Jazz had enough capspace to make really big free agent mistakes. Hayward, Gobert, and Favors are not going to be high priced role players. All would be tradeable even at the max.

Appearantely Jazz offered Dudley 15 Mill per for 2 years. He chose Phoenix.

Sent from my iPhone using JazzFanz mobile app

I'm reading he got $10M/year for three years from Phoenix. Bad move unless he really loved his time in Phoenix.

$15 million per year for Jared ****ing Dudley is dumber than ****. I'm glad he saved DL from himself on this one. I can understand the pressure to do something, but c'mon. . . this isn't the right move. Go big game hunting or bargain shopping. . . this in between **** is going to cripple teams two years from now when star players want $30+ million per year. Be the team that still has cap space when that rolls around.

Here is why none of those trades are comparable. In the Handlogten trade, we received the overpaid player and a first round pick. So, in order for Utah to replicate this trade with an overpriced Gobert we would have to send the first round pick out with Gobert so we'd be trading Gobert and Hayward for cap space.

Jeff Malone and Hornacek - We had to send a first round pick to Philly to make the trade. We gave up more. This may be the closest thing we could hope for. That we send out Gobert and a first round pick for a quality player back. We couldn't swing this deal with AK, Millsap, Al, etc.

When New Orleans traded Haywood, he was a five time all star. If Gobert turned into a five time all star, we wouldn't be trading him.

DeShawn wasn't a max player. Not the same.

Giri wasn't a max player. Not the same.

Brewer for Jefferson. In this trade we would be Minnesota trying to unload Gobert and a first round draft pick. Not the same.

Just checked to make sure Joe Johnson was still alive. Apparently he is, and doesn't completely suck.
