2013 Draft
- I don't believe in Bad draft.. I do believe in the American talent pool and this year is very good for Inter talent. All the years we've been doing this I haven't seen a "Strong" draft yet
- Latest Mock: Larkin at #14 and Franklin at #21
- This year not as much separation that you usually see -
#7 could be #27 in someone else' board
- "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder Draft"
- Every year lots of surprises, this year there'll be more than most, there's always guys that fall and rise
- I used to get frustrated by it, now I just "enjoy it"
- If you have the draft 5 times, it will probably come out 5 different ways (from hearing stories from the war rooms).
Point Guard
-
I really like Trey Burke - he's clearly the best
-
I'm a big McCollum fan, then a big drop off from there
-
Schroeder has a chance to be good, but many question marks
- He came to US, did workouts, got homesick and went home
- Never know how he'll handle NBA lifestyle
- Not huge on MCW
- I like Erik Green, Nate Wolters,..
- Larkin won't be a starter, but a solid backup
- Not big on Jackson or Canaan
- Locke: When we chatted 2 years ago, we didn't agree with your opinions. I like don't like McCollum, but I like MCW - he's so long and fabulous what we can do
- Givony: Do you realize MCW is only 1 inch longer than Burke?
- Locke: Yeah but he he's so long
- Givony: But why can't he finish at the rim?
- Locke: But he'll get more space... I just like him. I'm not sure I like Trey Burke. BTW it's 1 inch and 3/4, not just 1 inch.
- Givony: Well, all MCW has is his height. I'd rather go with Burke who can score, has a deep range, etc. I like the guy who can score anywhere on the floor and is a pure PG
- Locke: How about Larkin VS Canaan?
- Givony: Both undersized. Larkin is more of a PG, has better size. Canaan is more about "getting his", not always about the team. Both can shoot the ball.
- Locke: But Larkin is really small... what have you guys learnt from the past when looking at diminutive player who has been successful?
- Givony: No. Nobody this small has EVER been successful. But he is a phenomenal athlete and incredible skill...
Schroeder
-
He's not as "tough"
- He comes from a poor family, didn't have an easy upbringing.. He has issues in the past with authority, temper, he isn't the easiest guy to manage
-
But he has improved. He'll need a support system.
-
His agent said: I don't care which pick, I want a good place for him and a good support system
- He isn't a bad person, he could just be immature...
- I actually like him quite a bit, he's a really nice kid, people just need to be aware of his position ...
Jazz
-
If McCollum is gone, I would take Schroeder over MCW, Larkin, etc..
- I think Utah is a STRONG org. They can surround him with good people and get the most out of Schroeder
Big Guys
- Noel is thin, but he got injured, he will fill out, it's not that big of a concern, he could be a senior in high school
- I'm not too concerned about that - it's overblown.
- Interesting group - don't usually see so many 7 footers in the mid first round
- It really depends who you're looking for..
- Bebe - He didn't play a lot, hard to jump up and down with a guy like that. I think he could be a solid backup
Future Potential
- Locke: Starter out of our top 5?
- Givony: All Pro =
Alex Len
- Givony: All Star =
Oladipo
- Givony: Starter =
Burke, Noel, Porter, Adentoukounbo, Bennett, Gorgui Dieng
- Givony: Potential 2nd round starter: Erik Green & Jacky Carmichael
Locke: "I LOVE THIS - we've got so different opinion!!!!"
Bazz
- Disdain from Bazz comes from being cheated over the false info (age)
- I'm not as down on him, there's value in scoring
- He'll be able to put up points on NBA (but may be not as efficient)
- He's still one of the youngest guys
- He'll be OK, but he's not who we thought he was
