You guys make me laugh.
We don't have any star players (yet).
We have NO depth at all.
We have a brand new coach who will implement a brand new system that may or may not suit the young players that we do have.
We have three picks in the upcoming draft AND an aggressive GM who made 3 trades last year to get the players that he wanted.
We have two decent assets out in Europe who may or may not be brought over.
And we have six talented 1st round picks (5 who were lottery picks) who have barely played together and have just struggled with new assignments and suffered through a long, tank season without getting completely down on themselves or the team.
Why does every draft pick mean that we have to ship one of the players we currently have to another team?
We're not getting fair value for getting rid of Favors, Kanter, Hayward, Burks, Burke or Gobert. Maybe next year, but not this offseason. The Jazz are much better off adding a couple of new draft picks, bringing Tomic and Neto over, maybe adding a FA or two, and then letting Snyder and his staff sort out how the pieces we have fit for him this upcoming season before getting really aggressive next offseason.
If they're able to work out a trade to move up in the draft and nab Jabari Parker, then I'm all for that. I'd prefer to see them ship out a boatload of picks and keep our Core5 players, but I'd be happy with the end result regardless of how it goes down. Outside of trading for Parker, I want them to stay at #5 and draft Aaron Gordon, then try to maximize #23 and #35 into another lottery pick. The added depth along with an energized coaching staff should make the Jazz a much better team. If they truly want to land a franchise player, they're going to need rock solid assets to get them. Our assets aren't to that point yet, but they could be if they continue to develop them.
Everything about this offseason SCREAMS developing the young players to me.
