Following Potential 2018 Draftees

BTW @rare144 is right about the wingspan. Players with longer arms have harder time with the benchpress.
Yes, I'm aware (this is my go to excuse when anyone I workout with out benches me). 0 reps a few months away from turning 22 is still 0 reps. And the two other older extremely long and skinny players (KBD and Hervey) had no problem putting up some reps

Not sure that's any different than most years. Look at last season. Philly was just stupid to take Fultz. And to compound matters they gave up assets to do it. Boston laughed all the way to the bank with Tatum.

It's always good to have #1. You get to choose anyone. So if you think Doncic will be better than the bigs, you take him. If you think it's JJJ or Porter, you take that player. The draft "experts" may be saying Ayton is the best prospect, but that's why a team employs scouts and has a GM.
Of course its better to have #1 than any other pick. My point was more that if you only get the #1 pick once every 20 years, it would suck to have your one time be this year as opposed to an Anthony Davis year or Kyrie Irving year.

Idk how y’all are twisting what Cy said, but that’s really impressive. Whole new level of dumb.

When you have a guy who is an older prospect, raw, and there are indicators that he might not be into the weight room...that’s a red flag. ESPECIALLY when he’s already undersized and lacking in offensive skills.

Basically, for Frazier to succeed, he needs to become more of a physical prospect. Gain weight, get stronger, etc. That’s easy, basic stuff. Cy is right to think it could be an issue. He’s not saying it is an issue, just that it could be. Comparing Frazier to Durant/Jokic is intellectually dishonest and downright dumb because their games are different.

Woah, that Melvin Frazier kid. A 7'3'' wingspan. And he recently improved his 3 point shot. His defense too is insane and jumps out of the gym. He will be a player. He may get better in the open space of the NBA. Why is he being slept on?

Maybe the Jazz should just trade out of the 21 spot and find a way to get Melvin Frazier and Grayson Allen. You get more athletic and some shooting. The 1, 2, and 3 spots become very athletic on this team.
No. 7'1.75. Still ridiculous, but not 7'3

Also, I know bench press doesnt really mean anything towards basketball, but I still think it's a decent measure of how much a player probably puts into the weight room.

Melvin Frazier is nearly 22 and can't bench 185 a single time.
Some if that is the ridiculously long arms.(edit: just saw this has been said a million times) But yeah, dude could stand to get stronger.

#LockeWatch ... someone finally brought to his attention the new rule about trading non-guaranteed contracts.

Also... he likes Mo Wagner! I still remember the interview DL gave when he said "the moment we traded Lyles, we knew we will be searching for a 6'10" big who's able to stretch the floor".... *checks out Mo Wagner's measureables* ... 6'10.5" .... *checks out Mo Wagner's 3p%*... 39% ... Okaay...

I think Mo's gonna end up in the first. The lakers maybe at 25

If there was a way to move up and get Jaren Jackson, him and Mitchell would be the most exciting young duo in the league, easily. Perfect fit for the team.

Not in a million years is it doable without sending Mitchell the other way though, so obviously a no go. I was hoping for a while that his stock might go down to the level of #7 or #9 but that’s just not going to happen. What a player this boy is going to become.

He would be a fantastic fit. I feel like the highest we can get to in the draft is #9 but that would mean taking back Noah's contract. For Jackson, I would do that all day. Maybe Porter too. But probably not for Sexton, Trae, either Bridges.

JJJ, Porter or Doncic. If any of them get to 9, then you take on whatever bad contract NY wants to offload to get their pick. Otherwise don't overpay in this draft.

But only cap relief for NY in 2 years (by trading Burks and Crowder, for example). By then, Noah's contract is expiring and may actually have some value for NY. There's no way we can get to even the early teens without giving up a player we want to keep. Jazz just don't have good, young, tradeable assets.

Mo Wagner is an intriguing prospect. He's not getting a lot of buzz. I've seen him mocked in the 2nd. Would DL consider taking him at #21?

My thought is picking up the option on Udoh then trade Burks, Udoh and #21 for Noah and #9. The trade saves NY about $7 million this year (if you also factor in the draft pick's hold/salary) and Noah's $18+ for next year.

There is already talk about NY going after either LeBron this summer or Kyrie next summer. This trade gives them a financial shot to pursue them. Do they do this trade? Probably. Would we do this trade? Probably not. I would want more if we took on Noah. Just speculating...
