Following Potential 2025 Draftees

Based on what historical precedent?

To go back a couple years, the Thunder offered basically everything to move up to #3 to get Evan Mobley (and Evan Mobley desperately wanted to go to OKC and told the Cavs not to draft him) and the Cavs told the Thunder to go **** themselves.

You have to just overwhelm teams to pick guys in ranked in tier 1 or so. Giannis is also going to ask for a trade after the Bucks strike out in free agency and having a billion bleh assets is so much worse than having Harper.

Also I am looking for a deal that is in the value range that we would say yes to... the most I can see us offering in terms of straight picks, prospects is like #5, Suns pick, Lakers pick and one of Key/Brice/Flip... and that is an overpay... is Austin the opposite of pappa?

There also generally seems to be two types of team attitude on stuff like this... either they are willing to move #2 and its for something somewhat fair... or they just aren't willing to discuss it.

That would be a little bit more than precedent, but I'd still do it. I think if we go for Harper we gotta find a home for Lauri.

The biggest thing here is just if SAS is actually open to trading it and/or Harper doesn't want to be there.

If we're talking about a situation where SAS loves Harper and doesn't want to trade him and Harper wants to be there, yes it will take that much. Nobody is talking about that scenario. What you listed was way more than what was stated in that article BTW. I think your points would come across better if you weren't so hyperbolic.

Even if they don't love Harper, they need to keep Harper in case Giannis asks for a trade. These small scale trade don't make any sense when the Spurs are probably looking to trade this pick for a star to win right now.

You realize nobody is talking about that either. Of course they will prefer Giannis. If not Giannis, who else is there to win right now?

They are going to rob NOP, I just know it.
Zion untradeable right now... Joe wants to make a splash. Herb or Trey and 7 for 3 and stuff... yeah I can see it. Or 7 and a future unprotected pick for 3... makes sense. Some dumbass PG13 trade where they actually trade for like Clips contract year PG... yup.

Austin, Justin, and Danny all need to call NOP DAILY.

And Giannis says he wants to stay another year... they draft Harper... He doesn't play as much as a rookie as expected from a #2 pick. A year later would they rather have a different asset plus a fluid pick to use in a star trade?

I think they end up getting Herb to trade down to #7. They'll take Kon who they probably wanted anyways.

There's a long list of teams we need to call daily.

If we got Harper I'd be cool keeping Lauri... I think they could both really help each other and we could still be bad enough to tank.

That does run counter to win now. I could almost see them moving #7 for a "star"... Sabonis or someone like that.

If you keep both, you better be prepared to kiss that OKC pick goodbye. I would just prefer Harper and young guys.

SAS is just a natural destination for Lauri anyways. Think he would be in the deal and it would be in everyone's best interests.

Because of what? Your earlier point about his teammates, why does that matter?
High IQ, giant wingspan, good athlete.

Not sure how serious you are about why teammates matter. Think it's fairly obvious advanced defensive catchall stats are impacted by your team context more than anything. There are a number of elite defenders who posted dreadful DBPM in college.

Being a mid defender on a horrible defensive team who played horrible competition is both the context and the concern.

THE ACE BAILEY CONVO

Free Agency
Matt Moore rumors:

-Fears is having monster workouts and interviews and his floor is 6
-Magic are trying to get a guy who makes around $25m (it's probably Simons from Portland)
Really highlights how unreliable HAEH's reporting of rumors are.

Says Magic want to package (as I'm get off/use) to get player(s), not looking to get specifically a 25 million dollar player. Actually I would take a guess they'd rather have that 25 Milly spread across multiple players instead of 1 player.

If I'm dealing Lauri to SAS I would prefer just taking 14 and a future Hawks pick.

Yes, the Hawks pick will have high value, but it should hold significantly less value than #2 this season. Just seems easier to work out a deal that way

I think we could still be pretty bad. I like Harper but think he could struggle to win games as a rookie pg in the west. May require Sexton/Collins moves as well as a Walker move though I suppose.

I would think SAS and Lauri would make sense. I also wonder if Collins and Harper would be pretty good PnR partners if we just rolled with him.

It does sound like either we trade a bunch of guys and try really hard with youth or we just try really hard. It seems the "load management" era is over one way or another.

IMO, I don’t even want to think about could. I want to go into next season knowing with extreme certainty that we will have our pick, and if we don’t have our pick it’s because the kids were too good. No messing around.

The other vets have to be gone no matter what. Even before AA went for his mic drop moment that was a non starter for me.

If a Harper traded did happen, Lauri is like the ultimate “he’s worth more to you than to us” kind of player. Can’t see a scenario where we make a Harper trade and he’s not in it. After Giannis, he’s probably #2 on their list of win now guys. Could argue Durant, but Harper wouldn’t be in a Durant deal.

SAS with Lauri would be my title favorites assuming Wemby health and additional moves to flesh out bench.

That makes sense.
