Following Potential 2025 Draftees

I really think Kas deserves to be in this group we're discussing at #5 and I'd probably have him leading that group, but I just got to look away so I'm not disappointed.

I feel the same way, but I'll admit, that if I was a GM making this decision I would have a very hard time picking Kas over Tre/Ace/VJ. I talk a big talk, but when it comes down to it I would be scared and probably go with the consensus

Most people hated it when I suggested it on X but trade down and get the guy you want while getting more stuff is an option.

Kas is much worse than the guys in the Jazz's tier so I don't support this (Kas basically has no shot creation unless he's hitting wild step back threes, his tools are bad), but I also don't know what stuff the Jazz would even want from these other teams.

Maybe 10 and Reed Sheppard for 5 if VJ Edgecombe is still on the board?

OKC would obviously love to trade up to 5 if VJ Edgecombe is on the board. 15 and Topic and a little more for 5?

I've become more high on VJ. He and Kas are neck and neck for #3 on my board, but if I had to make a decision I would probably coward towards consensus and take VJ.

Ace is very team dependent in my mind. If we had the right situation I could talk myself into him, but I think the Jazz are not a landing spot for his development.

Tre/Fears/Kon - I think these are the easier comparisons because most of their value is offensive and more simple to compare their chances of succeeding in different sized offensive role. Tbh, I think he's just straight up better than these guys. I'd rank his defense the best and his potential to be an offensive hub the best. He'd be somewhere in the middle as far as realistic, scaled down roles. Not as safe as Kon, not as risky as Fears.

I recognize I'm higher on Kas, but for him to not even be in the conversation is odd to me.

Washington 6 and 18 for 5
NOP 7 and the 2026 pick they have from the Pacers for 5
Brooklyn 8 plus a future Knicks pick for 5

I'm a Kon guy... if he was there later and another team wants to trade up I would consider it. Depends on who is on the board.

My "shades of"

Flagg - KG / Kawhi
Harper - Jdub / Tyreke Evans
VJ - Suggs / Oladipo / Melton
Kas - Reaves / Dinwiddie / DLO
Kon - Bojan / Bane / Sensabaugh
Jase - Quickley / Maxey / Patty
Tre - Herro / Hield / Poole
Ace - Barnes / Rudy Gay / Jabari Smith Jr
Fears - Collier / Fox

If you really believe the so-and-so is THE guy but that there's a very good likelihood he'll be there when your turn comes, why wouldn't you trade down? The only reason I can think of is the risk he's drafted before your turn is unacceptably high.

That said, getting more stuff strikes me as an "all else equal" argument. Lots of stuff isn't that helpful if the stuff doesn't include a "star" or if you don't already have that star on your roster (which the Jazz don't). Granted, you have to surround the star with quality talent to win, but quality talent without a star isn't likely to win.

I suppose one might argue for accumulating stuff now in the hope that a star comes down the road eventually. That makes a certain amount of sense. However, if you think your guy is a star, I don't think its worth the risk of missing out on him to accumulate more stuff if you think that risk is real.

I’ve put it like this… I think Tre and Kon are roughly equal prospects. I’d prefer Kon but get why someone would go the other way. If someone had a strong preference and wanted to pay to take their guy… I’d do it. Certainly risk but I’d take the guy I think they are trading up for (that I’m happy to keep) and then see how the board plays out.

I think fans are kinda sick taking whoever falls in the tier… so they just want to get their guy.

It seems like international guys have had a rough go at it the last 6-7 years outside of the tippy top tier guys like Wemby and Luka. I have a huge blindspot for them right now but I think that is why I'm kind of "meh" on them.

Reminder that Risacher and Sarr went #1 and #2 last year. The French, in particular, have been doing well, and there's a pile of them this year.

Makes eminent sense.
