Following Potential 2025 Draftees

I've seen the highlights of his passing. If you watch the assists packages on the hardwood hoops videos almost all players have really impressive passes and so I'm a little immune to seeing a couple of nice passes. I need more volume to consider him a good by NBA guard standard at passing
Most of those highlights were of his teams only scorer wasting Tre’s passes so what happens if you add all of his assists?

The only thing I'd push back on is that having a clearer role player route doesn't mean less star potential. Beyond obvious elite prospects (Flagg/Harper etc), star outcomes are split between guys who played like stars in college and guys who grew into stardom later at the NBA level.
To be clear, I wasn’t necessarily saying VJ didn’t have star potential. That’s what makes drafting him that early sensical, it’s just that his “floor” is being an athletic junkyard dog with a workable jumpshot.

Lol it’s time to stop scouting these guys based off highlights. I mean he’ll first time I saw VJ highlights I thought I was watching an Ant clone.

One issue is he’s his teams only scorer he expends a ton of energy. Hes started the year off playing good defense. He’s a freshman and probably had more responsibility for his teams only scorer than any other freshman

Watch a full game please. He’s more than a shooter and that will bare its self out in the nba. He wasn’t stuck on a ****** team. That’s where all his focus and energy had to be. There’s a reason some college players look much better in the nba compared to college.
I've seen a lot of Tre's games live and the majority of his scouting videos. It feels like you just want to see what you want to see

I would say Tre is a much better passing/playmaking prospect than Keyonte, and we've seen Keyonte's passing ability grow pretty substantially under Hardy (same for Clarkson).

I have no doubt in my mind we will view Tre (if the Jazz draft him) as a being a great passer in the years to come.
Missed this one, but I think this is a good point. I would add Sexton to the list of guards that got better at passing under Hardy.

Its kind of funny that Tre and Kon are pitted against each other. Some assume all of Tre's faults are his teammates/situation and then ascribe Kon's production to great teammates and great situation. Like Leif talked about how Tre struggles to get to the rim but its not because he doesn't beat his guy and declared him a three level scorer... then throws out that NBA spacing will open things up for him. He'd have thousands more assists if his teammates weren't trash.

Tre likely improves and figures some things out for sure but its funny how optimistic folks can be and the narratives they can stretch to fit the case... and then quickly dismiss another guy that has success at something because "it won't work at the next level". Its just kinda funny.

Still good with either guy.

If you could guarantee me Riley fixes his funky inconsistent shot mechanics I would say he's a top 10 pick.

There is something about Will Riley, just seems like he has a complete offensive game. He can do both on and off ball stuff and has good size. His passing is also pretty good. Think he will be at least good offensively, just worried about all the defense stuff. Need to watch more on him.

On the one hand, I think the key that unlocks the possibility of getting to the rim more in the NBA vs NCAA is high-level athleticism. On the other hand, it appears Tre (purposely) flubbed his standing reach measurement which gave him an artificially high vertical measurement.

I feel like my own process has them about the same, but the absurdity of some of the arguments made for Tre make want to be a Kon guy lol. It shouldn’t really matter, but when we’re trying to turn Tre into Shai it just makes me question Tre even more.

Like I wouldn’t really be upset with drafting Tre at 5, but I also don’t think my concerns about his rim pressure can automatically be dismissed because he drove twice and missed twice in the same play. If we’re truly believe in some of the stuff being said about him he should 1/2.

These Tre discourse feels like we’ve already drafted him and we’re finding reasons to be optimistic. It would be like pre 2024 draft me arguing against myself right after we drafted Cody.

If we draft Tre I will definitely be watching his 10 good defensive plays on repeat all off season, lol.
