Following Potential 2025 Draftees

I think it's a legit question why a guy of Yang's size couldn't score/rebound more in that league as well though.

Not sure what your expecting, he averaged a double double 16/10 on 59/33/67.

Also don't think he was the focus of the team, was 5th on the team in fga. And from the stuff I watch of his team, it was a pretty basic offense. Often times they would throw it to him in the post and stand around the 3 point line. Zero movement. Maybe I will watch more and see if it was a one off thing but it seemed like the exact wrong way of using Yang. Not that he can't do post stuff, because he does have some nifty post moves.

To my surprise, Will Riley is one of the better half court players the draft. His % of shots in transition is very low (which isn’t a good thing), but his volume in the half court is high and he’s fairly efficient. He has a decent rim rate that’s highly assisted - he’s a good cutter. In the half court, he’s comparable to guys like Tre and Ace in terms of usage and efficiency.

I know there is some ignorance on my part here, but I'm used to seeing Chinese Basketball Association stats from former NBA players and feeling like they can't be real, and then I look at Yang's stats and they are great, but not like silly. For example he averaged 16.2pts, 10.0 reb, 2.8 ast while Kenny Lofton averaged 25.2pts, 12.6reb, 6.5 ast,

Yang is 72nd in BPM in the Chinese League.

Because he was 19 years old.

Look, I'm just looking for context. Stats are hugely contextual and I'm admittedly ignorant of the CBA. I think there is good chance that there is some team Dynamic in play as well. 16/10 on 33mpg might be impressive as a 19 year old 7 footer in the CBA. It doesn't feel like it's that special though, but I could be wrong. I do think that 2.7 blocks and 2.8 assists as a 19 year old seven footer playing in the CBA is more likely to be impressive.

I'm very far away from a Yang Hater.

Two other players on his team averaged 10 rebounds per game and he was 5th in shot attempts per game.

Current Mellochill Prediction Market for who the Jazz will draft at #5:
Tre Johnson (40%)
Kon Knuppel (20%)
Jeremiah Fears (20%)
Ace Bailey (15%)
VJ Edgecombe (5%)

Ace’s probability drops in half. Kon becomes a strong candidate. VJ even less likely to get to #5 due to Acegate.

The way Andy approached this draft cycle is commendable. The ability to self reflect and learn from past mistakes should be encouraged. I can't speak to how good his model is without the details, but the fact that he used an LLM shouldn't be seen as a bad thing as long as he knows what he's doing. My main coding language is now plain english, and I've become much more productive at work since then. This is just what the industry is. If you're not using an LLM, you're behind.
