Being in the playoffs =/= 50 win team.
I don't recall many (any?) people predicting greater than 50 wins. But, whatever.
What was the over/under on the Jazz record at the beginning of the season? Anyone know, or did anyone make a bet?
Yes, Tom Haberstroh was one. He made a bet w/ Zach Lowe, who was really on the fence about it. I dont know what "of consequence" really entails, but he (was) one of the more popular ESPN basketball writers/analyst.Were any of them sane or reputable?
Nobody of consequence was saying this. Nobody. Right after we lost Hayward and before we knew what we had in Mitchell nobody had us making the playoffs, including a big chunk of people on this site.
They did. Several predicted we finish ahead of last year. I gave a link. I can give others if you like.
The forums were very bullish in the preseason. It's just that the first half of the season was so bad, that everyone forgot.
Example @Ron Mexico, who is definitely sane and credible, predicted we finish as a 4th seed.

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...otals-standings-every-nba-team-2017-18-season Kevin Pelton had us at 45...
Most people who wrote anything said Jazz were going to the playoffs, with win totals in the mid 40's.
After schedule came out I really don't recall any national person predicting the Jazz would win more than maybe 43, and I think most were more like 40-41 wins. That fits with the 41 win betting line I quoted above.
Has this team made the largest leap ever? Borderline lottery team to fighting for home court advantage? A 20 game swing!

That would be wild. Would have to finish the season 10-2 at the very least. Two more games against the Warriors in those 12 also.
I did predict that, but I disagree with the sane and credible part.
