Its Time to Tank

I mean, Rudy Gay is hardly playing and it's tough to argue too much against him when the team has played very well with him on the court even if his individual stats are bad.
He missed 10 games so its a little wonky... but he plays about as much per game as Walker and THT. The on/off stuff is tough to understand unless he's like amazing on defense... that is where it all comes from. He shares the court with Walker quite a bit so that might someone else carrying him a bit. He does help on the glass and gets 2 stocks per 36.

IDK... he's been awful and its hard to imagine the difference between him and Simone or Ochai is worth losing the dev time.

Yeah, playing with Kessler/THT his D stats get boosted, but he is also just huge, so he also contributes to that length those 3 put out there (and playing against more backups).

Simone was also just really lost on the court, especially on D, for the first month of the season. Hopefully when he comes back he can push Gay down, but I've really liked how Hardy has done minutes. He is hard on rookies, but I dont think he is unnecessarily hard. Guys are getting chances.

He's been good... I don't have many issues with how he's rolling so far.

Think he was saying Bagley/Ayton are scrubs and Trae was a downgrade (but not a scrub)

I thought he said the two guys taken before luka were scrubs. Ayton is a starter on a really good team and trey is the star of his. Neither are scrubs.

Maybe trey wasnt taken before luka. I forget. Thought he went second.

Trae went 5th. Atlanta traded down from 3 to 5, Dallas took Luka 3rd, Memphis took JJJ 4th (Atlanta knew this would happen because they already had Morant), and Atlanta took Trae 5th.

Big gap between a scrub and a #1 talent. Ayton is far from a scrub

Yeah scrub was a harsh term as admitted a few posts ago.

Its just weird that he is a #1 pick who has such a great skillset, but Suns fans and brass dont really buy in on him. I dont claim I follow Suns enough to know what he really is or isnt, just reading what those who do think. There were lots of media people covering the Suns who even thought they might not match if someone throws a max bag at him last summer... which is a preposterous idea for a #1 pick coming out of his rookie deal who wasnt considered a bust.

Atlanta traded the 3rd pick to Mavs who selected Luka, and picked Trae at Mavs turn (5th). Marvin Bagley III was the 2nd pick.

Oh and while I agree that Trae should still be recognized as a star, that star is looking dimmer by the day. Hawks fanbase has been slowly turning against him over the past year, and the haters numbers are growing. He also looks like he might be ousting his second HC in as many years and has been the absolute worst 3PT shooter in the league this year (28.7% is dead last among 105 players with 100 or more attempts... and Trae has 186).

Exactly. Hawks are in trouble. Trae's monster extension just kicked in and it's looking harder and harder to build around this guy and his Luka-lite act.

Good luck finding a trade partner when you have a small, shot-happy (22FGA per game!!!), ultra ball dominant PG who shoots 29% from the perimeter and makes $40 million per year.

draft is hit and miss.

2013 nba draft

#1 Anthony Bennett
#13 Kelly Olynyk
#15 Giannis
#27 Rudy Gobert

nba scouts also hit and miss

from NBA draft scouting report

6-3 – Combo Guard – Louisville

Mitchell is a defensive specialist and NBA level athlete who is still coming into his own on the offensive end. He doesn’t have great height for the SG position but his 6-10 wingspan and athleticism allow him to play bigger than his listing.

Pros
Mitchell has all the tools and the mentality to be a really good NBA defender and solid two way player. He might not be a guy that averages 20 points per game but he can contribute in so many ways that he has starter potential.

He's a great passer but just too ball dominant and too ****** on defense. Steph is now a good defender and he moves so much off ball that you have 5 guys constantly nervous about where he is. Trae has too much Harden in that he controls the ball and isn't a threat offball. Means the team lives and dies by your shooting/performance.

Losing Heurter is an underated hit on him imo. Having Dejounte is all about the Trae Young defensive liability issues but has hurt him. Dejounte is the better choice to run that team now, and the perfect fit next to Dejounte is Sexton who is from Georgia. I think Ainge would do a trade yesterday that was something like Sexton, (Mike or JC) & the Jazz own 23 first top 4 protected, for Trae Young , Jalen Johnson, and the Hawks 23 2nd via CHA

Another day.. another "this team is too good to tank" performance.. LOL ..
We need to change our name to the Utah Jeckle and Hyde's. You never know which team will be playing any given night. Could be the team that loses to the worst teams in the league, or the team that routes the best teams in the league.

If Lauri and COnley play you know they are going to be good with a chance to win. The Jazz have been consistently good all year. They dont always win, but they havent gotten blown out all year, so the Jekyl/Hyde thing is not even close to being true.

LMAO

I agree with Cy on this one. If we are healthy we are good. We are a playoff team. We are consistently good. When we are unhealthy we are inconsistent (although still surprisingly mostly good) which makes sense.

Also i think most fans pull their hair out about this. Even great teams lose to bad teams and get blown out sometimes. Its an 82 game season in a make or miss nba. Its gonna happen and happen somewhat frequently.
