Jazz back in talks with Josh Howard

Funny how, again, these forums are so much smarter than the Jazz FO..
I hope you guys have sent resumes to each team in the league, its only a matter of time.

That's right! No opinions for any of you. You will shut up and fall in line like the good little Mormons boys and girls that you are. Just nod your heads and go along with everything.

Amazing how folks judge Howard based soley on his post-injury performance. It appeared to me he was thrust into the lineup before he was really ready, and he played poorly. BEFORE that injury, he did play a whole lot better than Carroll did later. IF we can get Howard at a decent price, I would rather have him starting in the event Marvin had an injury, than seeing Hayward moved to SF and screwing up our SG rotation. A team can NEVER have too much depth, and I'm sure that's what the Jazz are thinking... W/O a super-star a small-market team needs to play solid basketball, even when they have some injuries, to stay competitive.

I'm sure some of our posters, given the opportunity that the Jazz front office has, could do a good job.

I like the notion that, despite our acknowledgement of how human and often stupid some executives around the league are, there's something about being in the Jazz FO that makes you omnipotent and infallible. The Jazz have their fair share of complete F ups (John Amaechi, Raja Bell) and Josh Howard would be among them and everyone knows it. If the FO can't see that, reality won't change to accommodate their opinions.

He's a good soldier. Support the brass, don't question, just go with it. Never offer an opinion.

Reading around a bit, many people thought Howard was our best defensive wing. I didn't see enough games to pass judgment on that, specifically, but keeping a veteran to sit on the bench, be a good locker-room guy, and teach/demonstrate good defense seems like a reasonable proposition.

If he's starting over Williams, that's not a good thing.

are you kidding? carroll has very little positive impact on the offense. he is a subpar offensive player.

No **** sherlock, but so is Howard. And Carroll doesn't jack up shots every other possession. When Carroll was in he at least was content to sit in a spot and shoot only when open, if the clock was desperate.

For a veteran's minimum, where the league pays part of the salary, I would do it. It will likely be exact same deal as last season though, which still isn't bad. I could see Lindsey being very much in favor of Josh Howard, as the Spurs were very interested in Howard last season during the summer and at the trade deadline. I look forward to Lindsey though using his skills trying to find players less obvious choices like Danny Green and Gary Neal.

Everyone speaks of Howard being a bench guy and gets minutes with injuries, which is fine. The problem is that's not reality since we have a coach who feels obligated to play him.

Howard may have been injured but that had no bearing on the stupid shots he took or the turnovers he committed with lazy passes, or the lack of hustle that allowed his man to get easy baskets on the other end ... let's be done with this guy and give the minutes to Burks who needs them.

He had an injury that caused him to randomly jack up shots that had no prayer?

in fairness, he did that before the injury too... and even got praised for it. his aggressiveness when he was in the second unit was something he was seriously lauded for by the local media and by fans... including many on here. i think we just got tired of it when he was starting and taking those shots away from g-time, paul, al and devin that it started really bothering the masses.

This.

Plus, we already have Hayward, Williams, and Millsap.

it's one of those lose-lose situations.

If he starts, plays, or even does well, it doesn't really help us. Him playing well probably still isn't nearly as good as getting Williams, Millsap, or Hayward on track. He's taking away time from guys that might actually be long term solutions too. Then, if he doesn't play as much as he wants/sucks, he probably won't be happy and will become more a distraction/cancer like Raja Bell became than a benefit.

I just don't see how we benefit from having him on the team. Let him go play with someone else. Or attempt to play for the Lakers and get a ring or something.

He felt "obligated" to play our wing who was the most effective on defense?

If Williams is an effective defender (as he has been touted to be) and stays healthy, I don't think you'll see Corbin feels obligated to play Howard.

How long did it take Corbin to grow enough balls to bench Bell? I don't see Howard taking it to the extreme of hopping off the team bus (which still didn't lose Bell minutes) so I see Corbin feeling guilty about letting an "experienced vet" who signed here to get minutes not get playing time.

We praised him for heaving the ball into the air at random intervals?
