Mavs or Warriors? Who do we want 1st round?

Who do you want in Round 1?

I wouldnt call the rest of the Mavs garbage.

Jalen Brunson, DFS, and Dinwiddie are really good.

Powell/Kleiber/Bullock are solid role players.
I really wanted us to get Dinwiddie. He'd be really good with Donovan.

And they'd be facing Memphis instead of Phoenix in Round 2.

Damn. For everything that's happened this season, the Jazz would have a very solid chance at the WCF had they just went 2-0 in the past week in road games they led by 16 in the 4th quarter.

Yup.

The Warriors are 10-15 in their last 25 games (.400). The assumption is that they'll get all their guys back, healthy and clicking at the last minute before the playoffs.

If they don't, then they're kind of like the Knicks.

Warriors is just a perfect 1st round opponet.

1. They arent that great this year
2. If you beat them you get a huge morale boost. While they may not be great, it's still beating Steph Curry/KlayThompson/Draymond Green in a playoff series.
3. Watching Rudy dominate Draymond would be gold
4. Listening to Draymond make excuses on TNT would be priceless.

If we get to Game 7 in that series I will go and personally get us the win.

Because that worked so well last time...
I’m doubling it this time *******!!!! I don’t see you out here helping the cause by poisoning our opponent… I’m out here like Rudy on defense.

So if the Jazz play the Mavs, Tony Jones thinks the Mavs will play a lineup with Doncic/Brunson/Dinwiddie/Bullock/DFS in order to space the floor.

In that case, the Jazz could counter by playing both Rudys and see if we can dominate inside the paint on the other end.

If we win the first round and then face Phoenix or Griz and lose in a close back and forth series 4-3 (note not a epic choke) and that team goes on to the finals and maybe even wins it all. Especially if we were the closest to beating them. How would people feel about this team then? Somehow I think this scenario is very possible.

I wouldn't feel much differently than I do now, to be honest. I think we're all past the point of moral victories...it feels like it's at least conference finals or bust for this team. Conley will be 35 next season, Gay 36, Bogey 34 by next years playoffs. Even if your scenario came to fruition, I still feel like at the very least we need to re-tool around Rudy and Donovan in the offseason to try and get younger, more athletic and better defensively.

The main question for me isn't the matchups on the court but Quin's ability to actually adjust. He has come out with fantastic starts to the playoffs 3 years straight and then gets out coached BIG TIME and he thinks he is adjusting but it's almost a joke at this point.

If we drop the ball again on a small ball lineup after supposedly preparing all season (which I haven't seen) then count me out on Quin. If Quin learns to actually adjust (which may require removing Gobert at times) then I will be pleasantly surprised. I don't expect it though.

Hard to choose. GSW is probably a bit more complete than Dallas. And if we pass this round, playing Grizz instead of Suns first might be a better option. But first we have to pass the 1st round, far from beeing done the way we currently play.

The Mavs aren't as athletic defensively as the Warriors. They also aren't as potent shooting from mid-range as the Warriors would be with Steph, Klay and OPJ. Jalen Brunson wouldn't be able to stop Mitchell or Clarkson when they're matched up. If the Mavs go small with DFS at the 5, the Jazz should be able to dominate in the paint. So on paper, the Mavs would be a better matchup for the Jazz.

However, if Steph is going to miss games, the Warriors aren't going to win a series, imo.

In the playoffs Luka is a murderer. Look at his stats against a great defensive team with wings on wings on wings. They have the personnel to switch everything… so tons of one on one. Because the offense runs through one dude it is more consistent and will limit turnovers. I think we legit have a shot to beat GS but would put it at 35% if Steph is somewhat healthy. I think the only way we beat Dallas is if Luka gets hurt. Luka might be the individual player you’d want to see least in the playoffs.

Luka's great, but the rest of the Mavs team isn't that special. Luka's never won a playoff series, though he's made them competitive. If the Jazz trap Luka, the ball will go to Brunson or Dinwiddie, and it will be up to one of those guys to break us down. I like our chances, tbh. Between Royce O'Neale and Danuel House, the Jazz should be able to harass Luka full court.

It's just as important for the Jazz that the Mavs don't have shut-down defenders to put on Mitchell and Clarkson.
