Game Thread NBA Draft Lottery - May 12, 2025

Added to Calendar: 05-12-25

It's always about the money. They had to support Wemby, so SA in the top 3 was a lock. Philly with Embiid needing a partner was another lock, big name in a big market. And Dallas obviously had favors promised for the inexplicable trade that sent YET ANOTHER ****ing generational talent to the Lakers for LeBron to have another shot at a ring before he retires. Go back to page 1 and read my post. That's the logic and it fits perfectly. Maximizes the money for the league. Undoubtedly Ryan gets some kind of "cash considerations" as the owner taking it up the *** for all this ********. But it's a business first and foremost. The percentages and pomp and circumstance is for the fans, the owners already know what's up. As long as the money lines up nothing will change.
My earlier post is a copy of something Steph Curry's wife tweeted during a game several years ago, I don't remember exactly what the context was but "rigged for money or ratings" is just a funny phrase.

I do believe the draft lottery is actually rigged though.

Until they do the draft in front of the cameras, I'll continue to think it is rigged. The Luka trade was too suspect, which is why I, along with many others, believed they'd be rewarded in the lottery. The Spurs must have some damn good blackmail evidence against Adam Silver as no team is that "lucky".

A good Wemby team inflates ratings on the major markets. With the new tv deal, the NBA has a lot of pressure to have high rating games. It is a business, and all about the $$$.

The league needs superstars to shine and win. The old guard with Lebron, Steph, KD, James Harden, Kawhi, etc. are fading out at this point.

here is the silver lining -- even with this ******** first overall pick, the Dallas Mavs were set to be a generational juggernaut if they even managed to get a *lopsided* haul for Luka.

What they got instead was a travesty. So yeah, whatever, they can take Cooper. That franchise is cursed, Coop will probably rupture ligaments.

No doubt, and they need matchups on national broadcast days that bring in high ratings. Otherwise they lose out on future tv deals. They need the ratings. I'm sure with revenue sharing all the teams will make a lot off of these "decisions".

So the Mavs will never put any elite young talent around Flagg?

They only own their 1st rounder next year, then it's gone from 2027-2030. They will likely make the playoffs next year if AD is healthy, so they will have a short run with AD/Kyrie/Cooper before AD/Kyrie age out/get injured out, then they will have Flagg on his 2nd contract surrounded by scrubs.

San Antonio has moved up 3 drafts in a row.
And teams like us, Charlotte and Sacramento keep getting shafted. We were at least winning and weren't in positions to win lotteries very often but for Charlotte/Sacramento to never win it once in their franchise history compared to teams like San Antonio/Cleveland it's beyond ridiculous. Tell Sac/Charlotte fans why they should care about the NBA any more when the league has turn its back on them so many times.

Yeah, I'm fine with odds, but there should be a limit on how often you qualify to jump up.

Why should we care though? It looks like the Jazz will not be relevant in the next 5 years anyway.
In all likelihood put a "1" in front of that "5". Unless we strike gold in the lottery somehow like we did with Gobert and Mitchell odds are we will just never be relevant. The league doesn't need us to be relevant to maximize the money. There is no magic recipe or secret sauce from Ainge that will change anything realistically. This was likely our best shot at a generational talent and franchise cornerstone. The league decided they needed Luka in LA, and for SA and Philly to get better running mates with the other big stars than they needed us to be relevant. Any jazz fans better hunker down for the long haul or start praying we buck the trend and that someone turns into late lottery gold or we'll be play-in at best for the next decade+.
