On the radar: 2012 Draft Class

I'd probably go with Davis' dunk, although, dunking over someone with two hands is pretty damn difficult. Props to Gil.

Changing topics a bit...who would you guys pick between Alec Burks and Austin Rivers? I'm curious.

Wow. Great question. Most here would say Burks, hands down. I don't think it's that easy though. Austin needs to show that he can be a TEAM player this year. Needs to prove he's not deathly allergic to passing. The casual fan believes Austin is a lights out shooter, but it's a myth, he's a volume (albeit inefficient) scorer with a sub 35% perimiter shooter against high school defenders.

Having said that, to the casual basketball fan he's a lot of fun to watch play the game and IF he greatly improves on those above-mentioned areas he'll be a ticket seller and instant offense.

Cue Numberica to correct me and say the kid is simply garbage .. which would be true if he remains as-is.

I could see Rivers developing into an upgraded Steph Curry, and that's pretty scary. Yeah Rivers was selfish in high school, who cares, he was probably three times better than his next best teammate. Those ill advised shots are actually high percentage shots if you want to win. Coach K will have to reel his aggressiveness in, but would pick him over Burks without too much hesitation.

Yeah, Rivers really needs to take advantage of the opportunity of playing for Coach K, and prove to everyone he's a multidimensional player. If he could pass and defend as well as he can score, then he could be a very special player.

But I've also been wondering if Burks has even more potential than we originally thought. I mean, if one day he shoots 36% from the 3, and adds ~15lbs of muscle, what would he be lacking?

A season?

ok let me know, GS pick is 7 protected is that means if GS is 7th worst team (2012 season) we won't get their pick?

and what if there will be no season at all?
and what about minnesota pick

please make it clear for me.

First of all, no one knows how they'll structure the draft if there's no season, but I would think that no matter how they do it if GS has the 8th pick or worse, then we get it. As far as the Minnesota pick, it's lottery protected (14).

Going back to the GS pick, people forget about the lottery, so if there is a season, technically they can have the 5th worst record and we could still get their pick, but it would be highly unlikely as 3 teams would have to jump them at the lottery.

Question: Is it possible to be a volume scorer when you're shooting 51%? Yeah, he shot the ball a lot. He made his shots a lot. His team wasn't exactly that good, he's a playmaker, give him the ball and he can make something happen. He's not deathly allergic to passing, in fact, he's a pretty damn good passer. Also, any casual fan that thinks he's a lights out shooter is at least halfway correct. He's not a good 3-point shooter....yet. He shot 32% from 3. He shot 66% from 2. 66% is pretty lights out IMO. If there's any coach that can turn him into a team player, it's Coach K. He's in the right place, I wouldn't worry too much.

so we still have a chance to draft quality player,
this year draft look quite strong because of lockout. Guys like Rivers, Gilchrist, Lamb, QMiller, TJones seem to be avaiable.

I've been the one more supporting Rivers on this board when others call him garbage, just for the record. Having said that, what have you seen of Rivers that would indicate he's a pretty good passer? I'm sure he can be .. but I've never seen him actually do it. What I have seen is him driving recklessly into the lane, drawing multiple defenders and putting up a circus shot rather than passing to an open man.

I'll engage a little bit on this topic, but I have no real passion for it one way or the other .. just calling it as I've seen it.

Watching him play against China and some scrimmages. Yes, he still has a tendency to drive recklessly into the lane and put up a stupid shot, but he's breaking that habit. He has very good ball skills, and he is a very smart player. He just has to break the habit of being a one person team like he has for several years. As for his NBA prospects, I'm still a bit hazy on that. He doesn't really have prototypical 2-guard size and I don't think he can play PG in the League. For a college player, he'll do very well. Curious as to your thoughts on the volume shooting, not trying to pick a fight, just curious on your thoughts on the stuff I said. Like I said, I'm not trying to pick a fight, but don't say things if you can't back them up....just calling it as I see it.

Judging anyone by solely what they do at the HS level is dumb.

In PKM and I's defense, I don't think either of us are judging him solely by his HS tape. PKM obviously knows much more about college bball than I do and it seems like he follows recruiting pretty well...I trust his opinion on these things.

If you weren't talking about us, then my bad and carry on.
