Police Power and Racial Tensions in Ferguson, Missouri

The STL Post-Dispatch reported Wilson married fellow Ferguson PD officer Barbra Spradling... Anonymous 'took the hood off' several Ferguson/St. Louis County KKK members, and Spradling has family ties to many.

Wilson is a murderer. He must be indicted and tried! Justice is coming for Mike Brown.

As I understood freakazoid's post, such a dragging was not justified. Hence, my question.

Until the facts were released and people are no longer speculating it was unjustified.

However I do see the anger at another police shooting and the demand for the truth as 100% justified. Brown's family deserves the truth and appropriate action depending on what that truth might be.

This is not the first time St. Louis has had issues with Racism in the past few years. I lived there for a short time and we were told to stay in doors several times due to Racial Tension. There is still a lot of Racism in the south. I've lived there most of my life. When I moved to Utah it was nice to see that the Racial inequality isn't as pervasive here as in the south. However, both sides of this issue are at fault. The police being heavy handed and Brown acting out using drugs, robbing a store etc.... Why we dont' take responsibity for our actions is beyong me. Brown was and is wrong as is the officer and media, protesters etc.... By the way, I have several friends who have marched in these "protest". They have told me that their is a large faction of individuals who have been "trucked in" and they are the one's who are makign the biggest ruckus and fighting between cops. The media is very one sided. Twill be interesting to see what comes of this in the coming weeks.

What part of the city? We moved to LaClede Town when I was 9, and my family lived there for about 20 years. I don't recall ever being told to stay indoors for racial tension.

Robbing a store owner is wrong. Looting is more wrong. However, shooting a person who has surrendered is still more wrong.

The local media regularly talks about the outside protestors. I don't see how it's so one-sided in that regard.

If that is actually what happened. The jury is, literally, still out.

But if everyone just shrugs this off will anything change?

I can assure you these "gun owners" did not follow the 4 principles of gun ownership. These blatant neophytes are not needed in our movement and make responsible gun owners look bad. To be sure, anti-gunners will latch onto this story as some sort of absolutist commentary on gun owners.

truth

[h=1]The Four Basic Principles of Safe Gun Handling[/h]To help ensure safe practices at home and on the range, make these gun handling principles your own, and they will become natural habits whenever you handle a firearm. The ADTA observes and enforces these principles at all ADTA events, from demonstrations to dry practice events to live fire events, and we're glad to help new shooters get started.
[h=3]1. Treat every firearm as if it's loaded.[/h]Even if you're absolutely certain a gun is unloaded, still follow these rules for safe gun handling. You want these rules to be natural habits; holding yourself to them each and every time helps make them so.
[h=3]2. Never point a firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy.[/h]Accept the mindset to always keep your gun pointed in a direction that would safely stop the bullet should it discharge. At an ADTA event, if you're not on the firing line, your gun should stay holstered muzzle-down, cased, or locked open and pointing down and away from people. If you're on the firing line, your gun should stay pointed downrange, at the bullet trap backstop at the end of the range. If you will be cleaning or handling your unloaded gun at home, find a safe direction ahead of time -- bullets penetrate floors, ceiling, windows, and walls. Masonry, a full bookcase, a full freezer, downward (if you're on the ground floor), or even a five gallon bucket of sand may be good options.
[h=3]3. Always be sure of your target and what is beyond it.[/h]You are responsible for the entire path of every bullet you fire from your gun. If you hit your intended target, the bullet may still continue through. ADTA live-fire events are conducted at locations with designated bullet trap backstops or berms to help contain rounds to the intended range area; you are responsible for only aiming in directions where you can be assured the bullet will be safely stopped.
[h=3]4. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are on target and ready to fire.[/h]At ADTA events, when you're holding a gun but not shooting, you'll hear us ask you to "index" your trigger finger. This means to keep your trigger finger straight, and to raise it up to rest flat alongside the body of your gun. Whenever you are not on target and ready to fire, your trigger finger should always be outside the trigger guard and resting straight and flat alongside the body of your gun.
