He's the commissioner of the Russian Basketball Federation.
For top european players, the schedule is actually not very good anymore. They play 30 Euroleague games (excluding playoffs), around 30 - 32 national league games (excluding play offs) and 4- 6 National Cup games. For instance European Champion Fenerbahçe played 82 official games last year despite not losing any play off game ( both in Euroleague and Turkish league). Travel / hotels / logistics is not very easy. Typically teams start training camp in September and season end in mid to late June, if the team plays in National League finals. Then after few days rest they start National team camps.
Now the gap between European and NBA salary scales is much bigger and many players would prefer to play 10 - 15 minutes in NBA. We saw many good players preferred lower paid NBA job (e.g Udoh) or Chinese league ( higher salary, easy competition)
Chinese league also ends early so you can then go and play in the US or Europe and make extra dough.
