Summer League Finale: Jazz vs. Sixers, 7/9, 8:00 AM MT

Is Evans making better moves? Getting the ball in better spots? Playing against lazy D? What happened today?

He's finding out the NBA isn't like the Big 10.

Edit: Oops, I thought you were talking about Evan Turner. The other guy with Evan in his name, the better one, plays for us.

Summer league is over and I think Hayward could of easily scored much more per game if given more minutes. Utah more than any other team, split up the minutes equally amongst all the players.

Before the game, GH must have made the team his signature pancakes, sprinkled with love. That or the Philly players were out late, disco-dancing.

Easily could have. He was very efficient. I also like that after the game he mentioned that he needed to work on his aggressiveness. Overall, I think it was a pretty good week from him though.

The announcers were blaming the Sixers' play on how they played the latest game yesterday followed by the earliest today.

It's summer league so I don't want to get too excited but heck, this kid seems to get to the line a lot (do any of our wings do that?) and once he gets there, execute. And since he said he needs to work on his aggressiveness, perhaps he'll be conscientious about it in real game play.

That said, I'd like to see him fill up the stat sheet a little more. A couple more rebounds and dishes would be nice although from the one game I saw, he barely had the ball in his hands because Gaines and others hogged it.

Barely 20 years old, if he works on his craft (shooting, penetration moves, post-up game) and fills out his body nicely with another 10 or so pounds of muscle, I really like what he could become and where he could be in 2-3 years time.

Maybe he could be a piece.

Evans would play small forward on the Jazz right?

Hayward is looking more and more like a healthy Mike Dunleavy. There is definitely potential there.

2nd rounder Evans was looking good. He was a force defensively in this game. (And lots of dunks.) I think he "let loose" a little being the last game and was getting alley opps and such. He really looks like a young, thin AK. Long, quick hops, weak side d helper. Nice. I was impressed with him today. Once a bigger guy (they referred to him with an "NBA body already") posted up Evans, bumped him back and then Evan recovered to quickly go straight up and block his shot. Nice again. And he was able to time his rebound pretty well. Nice again. He's not Donyell Marshall or Booze but good enough to look like a rebounder compared to his peers out there. I find it shocking that there are guys at the near-NBA level who can't time a reb. But its real.

Hayward is a bit decieving. He is stronger, bigger than just a skinny kid. His pre-draft athletic measurements were good, but he seems a bit awkward. He drives to the hole, a bit out of control, but gets the fouls. (He will not get that favor for some time in NBA.) He's dogged abit here for not being a shooter, but ends up 60%/40%/90% for the week. The part that has no deception about it is his passing. A couple of times that Gaines gave (had to) the ball to Hawyward out front so that he starts the offense, Hayward was able to initiate the offense with a good pass, with the right timing that the next player was in a position to continue the play. This is the essense of the "starting the offense" thing that appears to be nothing but is a real value. Secondly, when he did get the ball on the wing, he generally had a good pass into the post or to the cutter. he'll be a good passing wing for certain.

Both Gaines and Jeffers appeared to be playing like they should just do the scoring becuae they're "NBA players." I'm guessing they'll get the invites back to camp, but if i was coaching, i would have told them - "you are guaranteed to camp based upon your individual skills, now just go out and run the offense." I guess though if they enable others to look good its not good for them...

Ultimately, I think Evans (and of course Hayward) will be on the team next fall. Evans will d-league it for a while for certain but he's got NBA potential. I'm not thinking any of the new guys from this event was obvious to me to make camp.

KK looked good. Jeffers and Gaines we could do without. They showed me nothing. Davidson, Augustine, Benson and the two points ought to get a training camp invitation.

I watched the replay again. Hayward picked up the jazz offense quickly, too bad Yata was the PG. When given the ball he initiated the offense, dribbled well, and didn't rush anything.

I really liked watching his reaction after getting a cheap-shot fore arm to his head after teh whistle today. He looked up at the bigger player that hit him as if to say: Really dude? You're trying to make ateam with that move?

Then he jumped up and hit the foul shots.

His out side shot was better than the %29 he shot at butler, but will get even better with some coaching from Horny.

He will be fabulos with the first team and will lead the second unit--I think he is already better at initiating the offense than ronnie P. or Sunndi Gaines.
