I think we all know how tribal politics in America has become. Now, some have argued that both sides, Democrats and Republican, are to blame for the state of affairs in which we find ourselves. And some believe that we should not really be taking sides simply because we contribute to tribalism. I assume, at least, that this is what such a point of view regrets. In going tribal, for instance, we basically abandon one of the chief definitions of politics: politics is the art of compromise.
My own point of view is that, while I lament, to no end really, our inability to seek compromise, our consistent tendency to talk past each other, I do recognize that taking sides is not, in and of itself, something we therefore must avoid. I mean there still exist fellow citizens of mine that wish the South had won the Civil War. We took sides then, one side was right, one wrong. Both were not equally to blame, INHO.
Sometimes one is forced to take sides. Better to just admit it, and allow it to play itself out, then constantly insist both sides are equally at fault. Overall, I am forced into the position of believing Republicans are representing retrograde positions in relation to our future as a nation. On many levels, from being among the leaders of global warming deniers, to resisting demographic changes that threaten to make "whites" a minority in America, to supporting Trump defining our present Supreme Court nomination "crisis" as a front in a "war on men". For instance, this administration just released a scientific report which actually backed the conclusion that the Earth would warm by 7 degrees by 2100, and at the same time the same administration is insisting that regulations regarding the release of methane into the atmosphere by the fossil fuel industry be eliminated. And it is a Republican administration. It is damn hard for me to not take sides, tribalism or no tribalism.
I have nobody on ignore on this forum. I honestly perceive that Thriller keeps on top of things where this administration is concerned. And he often summerizes his points of view succinctly, and representing well the side on which he finds himself.
Sometimes you have to take sides. And this is one such time in our history. Our president might try to bridge the gap. He might try to act as a president for all Americans. He has never done so. And I am not on his side. And neither is Thriller. It's alright to be angry at Republicans. As far as I am concerned they represent retrograde forces in American society at this time in our history. They do speak for many. Unfortunately. It is what it is. I wish it were otherwise, but I for one will not apologize( and nobody has asked me to, of course) for knowing what side I am on and voicing the point of view I do, nor should Thriller be singled out as being over the line simply because he pulls no punches for knowing what side he is on. I believe he cares for his country just as much as those who back Trump to the hilt care for their country.
