The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

This doesn't seem ideal for the Suns. Sure they are winning but why risk the hammy. 37 minutes in 5 games in February, too.

Imagine the outrage if it was Conley, lol.

Watching heat vs Pelicans. Herb Jones is the legit difference maker on this pelicans team. His defense is literally changing their culture from losing to winning. Can't imagine any player making such a big impact for his team in his rookie season

Herb Jones is playing DPOY level defense on the entire Heat team. Yep, not "good". Not "great". Not "NBA all defense". But DOPY level. The kid is Kawhi lite

The Suns look invincible. If the game is remotely close, they’re probably just going to smoke you in the clutch...and it’s tough to stay with them in the first place. It’s incredible.

This is gonna be the year for CP. The west is fairly open, he will revert back to aging at some point soon, the time is now. He knows all of this.

Suns basically taking an all-in approach this season. next year Ayton will get paid and they won't have much left to make as strong of a push.

their athletic wings will surround your ball handler to force the TOs in the clutch. it's a simple ingredient. size+athleticism=championship contention

Like the seasons when we had Ronnie Brewer and AK playing their most minutes together as Jazz wings.

Oh wait, those teams also went out in first and second rounds before they self-destructed.

Remember when we had that? Of course, our guys couldn’t shoot well except for Hayward.

Believe it or not. Even if we got AK and Brewer, there still wasn't enough size and athleticism on the floor. Booz is undersized as a PF and basically got dominated by Gasol every time we play the Lakers. Okur is decent in size but definitely isn't the best athlete or defender that you would ever see. And even then, we were one Marc Gasol away from true contention. Too bad we took Fes over him.

The evolution of the game kinda matters too. Teams used to play big so size and athleticism that might be elite for today's NBA but would only be considered average 10-15 years ago.

Gasol beat us because Gasol was better than Boozer/Okur (and you know, having ****ing Kobe). IF Gasol somehow shrunk to 6'8, he'd still be better than those players.

It's not about size/athleticism, it's about who is better. Yes, size/athleticism contributes to that, but it's not black/white that you just get more size/athletic and you're automatically better.

Phoenix is what I thought the Jazz would become but it's clear this team isn't going to win ****. Oh well.
Agreed. The problem is our coaching staff and FO do not have the vision that Phx does. We had the potential to be that or even way better, but we bet on the wrong players and the wrong strategy, and then doubled down, and then upped the ante, all in the hopes that doing the same thing over and over will yield different results. Plus somehow Phx was able to instill the defensive philosophy into the team that prompted even guys like Booker, who was a well-known sieve on defense, to up his game and become a stopper. Our guys just haven't had the impetus to do that. It is pretty telling that we all know CP3 is a vocal leader, but he doesn't have to resort to going through the media to be heard by his team. They have a team that has entirely bought in and it is likely to yield a championship, if not this year still soon. We do not have that unifying voice nor the strategy to get us there. We, in essence, are the wannabes. They are the real deal.
