Trump Dictatorship and All Things Politics

Interesting analysis:

“his useful graph from Bobby Kogan of the Center for American Progress, which shows how the Trump budget proposal dramatically cuts spending on domestic discretionary spending, a broad category that includes education, science research, environmental protection, child care, national parks, housing and regulation. It illustrates an almost halving of support from the historic benchmark, a huge walk-back from some of the key policies that support a modern society...

Trump’s budget echoes Mao’s Cultural Revolution, which used propaganda to justify an attack on higher education, fueling a lost decade for Chinese research and a much longer period of damage to state capacity and innovation. America is now pressing the self-destruct button on science just in time for China’s careful decades-long reinvestment to allow it to take the lead from us. Imagine a Sputnik moment, but where an American President leads a propaganda campaign to not compete with Russia.

There is a broader pattern here: the embrace of propaganda has become the default tone of an administration no longer hiding its authoritarian impulses. Government press releases sound like unhinged Truth Social posts, likely because many of those writing the press releases were social media posters. White House Cabinet meetings and press events increasingly sound like something out of North Korea.”

Some good news.

Hopefully Congress pulls their heads out of their asses and starts attempting stronger ways to push back instead of just writing "strongly worded" letters. We need actual action at some point. Severely disappointing how entrenched the Republicans are in their cult.

Did you see this?

A white woman in MN was filmed shouting racial slurs to a 5 year old black boy in a playground, so she started a fund raiser to "protect her family" and has raised 600k+ so far from supportive Magats. These are the kinds of people we're dealing with here.

Honestly that's impressive, the presence of mind to monetise it and grift money off dickheads is inspired.

Right wingers are the easiest people to grift on the face of the planet. Just look at Trump's crypto coin. Before the election, I heard a bunch of coworkers excitedly discuss which of them owns the most Trump memorabilia...

Perfectly normal behaviour, I used to work with a bloke who collected SS memorabilia...

Oh will you look at that, an ICE prosecutor turns out to be running a white supremacist Twitter account. I'm shocked I tell ya, absolutely shocked!

Their economic anxiety is so obvious! And you see major influencers on the right saying that they’re going to keep pledging money to make her a millionaire. And we all know who’s responsible, the left. The left insists on asking people to be better. **** that. I should be able to do and say whatever horrible racist thing I want without any negative consequences! And the left must be careful to not scare away the middle by even hinting that racism still exists in this country. /s

The right has no free agency.

The incentive structure remains largely the same for both parties as it did In 2016.

Democrats are constantly scolded for even hinting that oligarchs have purchased this country. They’re told repeatedly that we can’t afford modest reforms to the social safety net that most other industrialized countries have had for decades, cuz socialism and taxes. And they’re encouraged to “move to the right” or else face a backlash. So the leadership remains stagnant and flat footed, unable to react proactively against the obvious threats of wealth inequality, blatant corruption, and fascism. You see pockets of activity, from the likes of Sanders and AOC. But you still hear a lot of negativity against them/an effort to limit their influence out of fear that they become the face of the party and “scare off” the mythical centrist voter. Democrats have no propaganda apparatus. They’re invisible on social media and podcasts. They just have no way to get their message out even if they could decide on a consistent progressive message (which they can’t, because they’re incentivized to not want reform but preserve the status quo or else risk the center).

Republicans meanwhile, are completely and utterly incentivized to do the opposite. The trumpier, the crazier, the more vulgar, dumber, and more fascist one can be, the better they become. They’re able to stave off primary competitors, fund raise, and appear on Fox News. There are two ways they lose, compromise with the left or speak out against Trump. So as a result, this cult and party will continue to spiral. Until the right wing propaganda apparatus runs out of demand for the poison they feed, nothing will change. Providing garbage to dude bros and Fox News geriatrics is just too damn lucrative.

Why? A large segment of our country has decided that they’re against traditional democratic values and ideals. They hate modernity (not the porn or trucks, they love the internet porn and gigantic trucks, but the modernity of women and minorities). They’d rather live in an alternative reality where Trump is god, America is white, women know their places, and we don’t need allies or free trade or vaccines and owning the libs is just soooo delicious. They want and will “burn it all down”. There is zero incentive for republicans to preserve anything.

And until any of these incentives change? We’re stuck.

Why didn’t he campaign on this?

I was told he’d make me richer and make prices go down. Yet, he’s doing the opposite. And why doesn’t this logic work for rich people like him? Can’t we get by with similar tax rates that we had under Reagan? Why must the rich constantly get more and more tax cuts? Maybe instead of having net worths of $100 billion they can get by with only net worths of $90 billion?

Trumpmeister Meisterburger tripped over a duck. And he probably had no toys growing up.

trumps messaging on the economy has shifted from "we are all gonna be so rich" to "you all are too materialistic and need to buy less stuff and sure things will cost more but you can just spend less".
Which really goes against the plan to bring manufacturing back to America. If you are wanting to open a production facility in America and the man who seems to control the economy right now is telling consumers to buy less stuff then opening a production facility to produce things that people are buying less of doesn't seem like a good idea.
Trump is an idiot
